When I lock an unlock the doors, I don’t hear any beeping or lights flashing other than being close to hear the locks. With our cars, is there a confirmation when you unlock it?

Strange, I am pretty sure it should have at least some sort of confirmation, that is at least if it is a Factory System. I've seen something like that before if not all the Door Lock Actuators function properly, meaning that one or more doesn't close all the way, getting hung in the middle. Check that all the Actuators are functioning normally, then you can try pressing the Lock button with one of the doors Open, then you should get a continuous beep, letting you know that the door is in fact open.
