Default O/D question

Hi guys,

Is it bad to turn O/D off when driving over 70 mph to pass someone? When is it not safe to turn O/D off just to pass someone? I know that it is not a good idea to leave O/D off when normal driving because it will use up more gas and would restrict my car to shift to the 4th gear.

Thanks

Try applying more pressure to the pedal under your right foot. Works for me without pressing any buttons. Transmission should go to 3rd gear for you.

lol if you wanna pass someone up and you turn of o/d you will be in a lower gear and your rpm's will be higher hence you will have power at hand more quickly than if o/d was turned on. Thats all.

Default My suggestion...

... when on the freeway just switch your tranny to PWR. That sets the computer to downshift more quickly (i.e. dropping out of overdrive) and provides you with those higher RPMs needed to pass. In a sense it's like letting the computer turn off the overdrive for you.

IS it possible to use PWR and then turn off OD just to pass someone? hehe Nothing beats the added kick when you turn off O/D.

heres a scenario where I would need both OD off and the PWR button on

I'm on the freeway in the carpool lane and some SLOW **** is going 45 in the carpool lane... car pool lane opens up briefly to two lanes when one lane exits

i anticipate the opening of the 2nd lane, I push the OD button to turn it off, car downshifts into 3rd.... when the lane opens, I punch it, downshift into second and blast away from the offending slow ****, then I turn OD back on and shift the PWR button to normal

why?? if the car was in 4th gear it takes an extra downshift to be in the right gear it will first downshift to 3rd... then 2nd... with OD off its already in 3rd and only needs to downshift to 2nd which saves ALOT oftime with our pretty lazy Lexus trannies
