for all occasion. I prefer red. Sometimes sweet and sometimes dry... depends on the time of day.
I like the dry with food...and sweet to sip and watch tv.
All-occasion? You can't go wrong with a California Cab. Oregon and Washington State Pinot Noirs are excellent, but they can get pricey. For something cheaper, an Argentinian Malbec or Chilean Merlot are excellent bargains, but are better paired with a snack than sipping.
With food? Stick with Italian reds. Best Italian reds for food are Dolcetto and Valpolicella (both are light bodied), and Barbera (medium bodied). Stay away from Chianti; it's overhyped.
