the government if forcing all tv stations to switch to digital by feb of 2009, so they will no longer broadcast in analog. the options you have are either use cable or satellite or buy a converter box. they are currently offering a coupon on the converter boxes. https://www.dtv2009.gov/
So..almost all TVs that are somewhat new are already in compliance with the digital change.
I think only those old school wood ones will be outdated
That's not correct.
Again, the only issue in February for ANY TV is for those who get their signal as an 'over the air' broadcast signal, received on a regular antenna or 'rabbit ears'.
If someone has cable or satellite even if their TV is ancient, no worries in Feb.
But IF someone only receives over the air TV (cuz they're too cheap to get satellite or cable ), then EVEN HAVING a brand new TV in most cases won't help them come February if the TV does not have an over the air DIGITAL TUNER that can decode the new digital over the air broadcasts (most don't). An over the air digital tuner box would be needed.
funny, cuz i have that same TV and am contemplating when to get rid of it and if i can get any $$$ for it. hey milky lemme know if you manage to sell it. i agree the damn tv is heavy...me and a friend moved it maybe 20 feet and we both almost dropped it.
What Bit said is 100% correct. Try watching the commercials. Comcast had one here that they CLEARLY said "If you have cable, your oldstyle TV's will still work fine, but if you have dish, you can qualify for the government coupon for the Digital reciever.
