I tried my first oil change on my 2007 RX350 V(V6 3.5L petrol) ; removed the whole filter casing since drain plug was stuck, very little oil came out (1-1.5 Liter/quart) max. The oil was runny and dark , and the filter had some thick sludge. After draining and was surprised by how little oil came out, i checked the dip stick and it was showing half full even when the filter casing was off, I'm very confused, how can this be possible? ! do i have blockage thats keeping oil in the engine from fully draining ? BTW i tested the dip stick multiple times and cleaned it before each measurement . many thanks in advance.

Hi All,

My 2007 RX 350 has original spark plugs and three recently replaced coils (front bank fortunately).

At 187,000kms, (116,000 miles) it's only a matter of time before I start getting codes for the rear bank coils. And when that happens, I expect it will be best to replace both plugs and coils front and rear.

I know that some on this forum have had the experience of plugs lasting over 200,000 miles, but given the labor expense of accessing the rear bank, it would seem best to replace both components.

I don't want to repeat that expensive task (3 hours labour) to access the rear bank again.

Wondering if anyone has good or bad experiences with using non-OEM coils?

The issue here is, not the sparkplugs which I intend to replace with the OEM Denso items but the coils.

In Australia (in $AUD) from eBay non-OEM coils range from as low as $70 to $150+ for a set of 6.

The Toyota/Lexus replacements are $140 each, or $840 for 6!

Interested to see if anyone has recently replaced their plugs but especially coils with non-OEM units and outcomes.

Thanks!

Hello everyone, I got a problem where the electric radiator fans on my 2004 RX 330 with 224K will not come on for some reason. I first noticed it when the AC stopped working and I’ve had this problem before with an Avalon that has the same drivetrain. So I replaced the fan assembly thinking that would take care of it but no dice. The fuse is good, and I’m pretty sure the (integrated) relay is good because there’s power at the connector going into the fan module. There’s also power coming out of the fan module into the two fan connectors as well. Hot wired the fans to make sure the motors work and no problem there. It’s like the command to turn them on isnt working so I replaced the coolant temp sensor, but that didn’t do anything either. Traced back anll the wiring from everything and it all looks to be intact. Other than that, all of the HVAC controls and actuators work, but the AC compressor doesn’t engage. No check engine lights nor anything else like that on the dash.

And the funny thing is that it doesn’t overheat. Been driving it every day in South Florida for the past couple weeks and the gauge doesn’t go past halfway.

I’m really stumped any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

RX350- 2009
Sometimes, rarely even, my ignition key will fail to rotate.
Taking the key out and turning it over sometimes works,
Using the second key sometimes works.
Jiggling the steering column, sometimes works..
Sometimes not, sometimes it takes extra fooling about before the key rotates and everything works normally.
It does not do this often enough that I could actually take it somewhere and show it to someone.
It seems to know when I'm at a late night gas station and there's not a soul anywhere in sight, before it scares me a little.

It seems like it might be a cleaning or lubrication issue but steering columns are complicated and I don't want to do the wrong thing and make it worse..
I would love suggestions on how this could be corrected.

So this is my first post on this forum, hello to everyone.

I have a 2009 Rx 350 with 243,000 miles. Everything works and honestly, I love this car.
When I got it, it was fairly much perfect on the outside. Good paint, good interior, pretty clean.
I've been encouraged by reports that these things run forever so I think I'm gonna test that.

I had the plugs and coil packs replaced and the engine has perfect well matched compression, nothing leaks.
There's a little bit of seepage on the power steering pump and my mechanics bugging me to replace it, but it's a really expensive job so I'm postponing that. It's may be 100 mL in 3000 miles so not too worried.
The suspension was worn out when I got the car so I had struts bushings and some suspension components replaced.
They replaced the front driveshaft and the aftermarket parts they use were horrible, they were unbalanced and they tried four different sets before we gave up and put on OEM parts
He rides and drives really well, but I'm not sure the replacement struts are up to the standards of the OEM, there's a bit of clunking under certain road conditions.

The reason joined this forum is that I have had a sad sad day. We had a big storm and it dropped a tree limb, just enough onto the road that I didn't notice it. And it hit really hard.
Pretty much exploded the right front tire. Progressive insurance has decided not to cover it. Apparently, if I had a deer, it would be fine but hitting a tree is road hazard.

The shop says the right front strut is bent, and the lower control arm is bent and they want to replace the steering rack. Over 6K in repair costs.
Also, my front bumper is torn, and my left front fender is bent rather badly, kind of shoved back a little.
I'm a cheap old man and I don't want to put too much into this even though I still want it to be usable, and it would be nice if it was still pretty...

I'd love anyone's comments on any of these items, in particular, I'd like people's experiences on aftermarket body parts.
I need a fender and a front bumper cover.
Are the body parts for this model and year the same between US-Canadian or Japanese manufacturing?
Are there brands or vendors of replacement parts I should just avoid?

Thanks so much

I’m posting this to see if anyone else has come across it and to let people know in case they have the same issue if they replace their front struts with OEM.

TLDR: Lexus seems to be supplying much shorter front right struts for the same part number.

Lexus had a pretty good sale on parts last month, so I decided to replace all 4 struts with OEM (reusing the springs). I have a 2009 RX 350 AWD, built in Canada. When I got the new parts, I verified that the part numbers all matched the old ones exactly.

The rears and front left replacements went fine, but when I got to the front right, I had problems. First, I had to compress the springs A LOT to get the top nut on - in hindsight this was the first sign that something was wrong. Next, when I went to hook up the sway bar, it was short about 2 inches, so I had to jack up the opposite wheel to get it to fit - the second sign.

I put it together and took a test drive. I noticed that if I hit a small dip or pothole with the front right, the suspension would clunk horribly. I jacked it up and noticed right away that the right spring / strut was about 2” shorter than the left.

I contacted the dealership and they sent me a new strut thinking it was a bad part. Same thing. As far as markings, both parts are TOKICO, but the short struts are marked TOKICO USA. The pictures show the whole story.

has anyone ever come across this or have any suggestions?

I am trying to purchase my unicorn vehicle (I really want a 2008 RX 400h with factory-installed tow package for a cross-country move with my family), but I am having trouble verifying what to tell dealers and private sellers regarding how to tell if their RX has the tow package. Apparently a bunch of RX's with tow wiring/ventilation packages didn't come with the hitch?!? This is the advice I've found so far:

1. The VIN check under "Tech" will show tow capacity at 3500 lbs.
2. According to a you-tuber, the Lexus emblem on the front is silver rather than blue, and has vents in it.
3. Or just tear out the trunk panels behind the driver side wheel well and check for the wiring harness.

Are there more definitive ways to instruct sellers on how to check? Thank you in advance!

Hello,
I am looking for some help. Extremely frustrated with my 2007 Lexus RX 350 FWD with only 100k miles on it. Pretty much, it shakes on acceleration, mainly noticeable around between 10 and 15 mph. Front end shakes somewhere. Not in felt in the steering wheel but more in the floor maybe? When you let off the gas, it immediately stops, so only as you are on the throttle. Anyways, I had issues last year with shaking and, since then, I have had new brakes, new tires, new CV axels on both sides twice, and now new motor mounts all around. It isn't a violent shake or anything, but it is annoying that it does not accelerate smoothly like it should. Not sure what else to do, but I am getting burnt out with sinking money into a car that I bought for reliability. If anyone else has had this issue and or knows anything, please let me know. I WANT to love this car...
Thanks

2005 RX 330, 335,000 miles on original suspension I am now on a mission to get 500,000 out of this car

I have two questions
1. On suspension I have been referring to the ultimate suspension guide from MattRX for my parts but have a question regards the rear sway bar links, he suggests using the delphi TC2022, I was looking and preparing to order when I came across a set of MOOG K90345 which have grease fittings at a very good price on ebay, curious if anyone has a thought one way or the other if not I will probably just go forward with the TC2022.

2. It is in need of some weatherseal, especially around the rear door any suggestions as to best vendors buy from, I have not really begun much of a search yet.

Thanks
