I believe Porsche has been using AGM batteries in their mass produced vehicles. 911GT3 and RS versions come equipped with lightweight lithium battery. They do have a pretty good BMS built in. My Macan is still on the original battery and I only use the battery tender once every 6 months on my GT4. But if you leave the car unlocked in your garage all the time and not drive much, the 12V battery might not last as long. Locking the car allows the system to go into deep sleep mode after a few hours, so there's no parasitic drain performing self checks every once in a while.
Thanks for the info. While we are on the subject of batteries, I notice that when idle, my Model Y uses about 2 to 3 percent per day. Both my Polestar and Ioniq 5 don't seem to use much battery when idle. We went on a one week trip, and we charged the Polestar up to it's recommended 90 percent before we left, and when we returned, it was down to 88 percent, only losing 2 percent. The Model Y on the other hand, would have steadily lost 2 to 3 percent a day. This is without Sentry on, car locked, and preconditioning turned off. You can always hear the Model Y doing something, turning on a fan, compressor, pumps etc. The Polestar on the other hand you will occasionally hear the loud "click" of the HV battery connecting. I'm guessing Tesla's like to keep the battery packs at a certain temp, so it's ready to drive on a moments notice. The Polestar on the other hand, if you don't have a preconditioning schedule set, if the ambient temp goes into the low 40's, you'll get a "cold battery" symbol pop up and a message that power is being pulled until the battery pack warms up
I was wrong, press release has WTLP range at 613KM or 380 miles! EPA range will be lower, but that's a lot of range out of 96kwh usable
That shows how much engineering went into aerodynamics. I like the fact that they capped the battery to 100kWh. Higher capacity equates to more weight and it becomes counter productive. I'm trying my best not to call my contact at Porsche to put in an order . Not sure if I'll succeed. I'm staying from Porsche forums lol.

I've read about Teslas and their parasitic drain. I haven't experienced that on my e-tron. We went on a vacation for 2 weeks and left the car at the airport. There was no loss of battery. I think it's just different approaches from manufacturers in terms of how the HV batteries should be treated.

what is the parasitic drain? There is no drain if you dont wake car up and use sentry.
Shame it came out looking so pudgy, but I like it overall. Makes me excited for the Cayenne.
I'm betting no, since this is a dramatically more usable package that appeals to a wider base of customers.
It may do well for 1st year but even Porsche ppl are not dumb to pay $100k for a compact SUV. Try building one online- options make price go up fast.
It starts at over $20k more than ICE Macan I believe. Plus not everyone is liking the styling but to me it’s fine.

That depends on their volume targets though. Porsche is clearly marching towards lower volume with all of these price increases. And given they'll have a value option in the form of the ICE Macan (unlike the Taycan situation) I just don't see them going nuts for heavy discounts on these.

Not sure where you got that they are going for lower volume. If anything, they are looking to grow aggressively. I personally wish they dial back as not to dilute the brand but i get that the EVs can help keep the ICE 911 alive.
Dealers are littered with Cayenes, Macans and Taycans.
911 volume has increased every year and they have been at capacity at their factory but are churning them out 24/7. Because of the high demand, the 992 gen is not built as well as 991 cars imo. The materials are also a bit lower quality. Porsche has 50% profit margins on 911 and I’m sure even higher with price increases.
I agree with you that there will be no discounts for first 12-18 months and some dummy will even pay ADM for the 1st EV Macan.
