Tomorrow I'm going to be test driving a Model X from the Sunnyvale, CA Tesla showroom. I lived in Sunnyvale for more than 10 years, and I know all the bad and open roads in that area, so I'm going to put it through the "comfort" test. I'll be posting pics and a fully transparent review tomorrow after the test drive. Just to be clear...I'M NOT BUYING ONE. I don't have the money, nor the room for it LoL! I've been a passenger in several Model X's, but I've never been in the driver's seat
BTW any of you in the Bay Area want to join me? I can have up to three guests. @ST430 , @JeffKeryk , @swajames let me know if you guys want to join
Thanks Amirza786. I would love to go, but I need to stay outta that store... Ha!
I have a lot going on right now, so no time.
I love Sunnyvale; went to Peterson High.
Had to move the test drive to Monday, as I'm in the middle of upgrading several servers, plus other work related duties. I'll update this thread again after the test drive!
Sorry - been out of town and just got back...u could always drive my plaid x if u want a real review lol

Test drove the Model X, and I wish I had not. Now my Model Y feels like comparing a Camry to a GS350 . The Model X I drove was the base with 670 HP, which believe me, is plenty. Believe me! It had the 20" tires, which would be my choice. Let me start with the interior:
This was the 6 seat version. Model X is way roomier than the Model Y, with heated and cooled seats, captain chairs in the second row and bench seats in the back row
Both front seats and rear seats are extremely roomy and comfortable. Lots of rear cargo space, and you can fold down the last row flat
Tech: It's similar to the Y, but with more advanced features and a bigger screen. Also, there is a dash display
One cool feature is the self closing drivers side door. Step on the brake, and the door automatically closes. Also, you don't have to slam it, the door will close by itself.
So let's get into my favorite part, driving dynamics. The X does not have any stalks or gear shifters. You basically swipe the left side of the screen, than swipe UP for Drive, DOWN for Reverse or N. There is a "P" at the top for putting it in Park. Also there are hepatic buttons at the bottom of the screen where you can also select drive modes. I think when you step on the brakes they light up. There are a few drive modes: Chill, Sport, and Insane. Insane is, just Insane Lol! I put the car in Sport. There are also several suspension settings, Comfort, Auto, Sport, and Advanced. I selected Auto.
Driving dynamics:
Compared to my Y, the X feels heavy, but not in a bad way. The power is just insane! There is NO non EV SUV that can match this car in performance or efficiency. NONE. It accelerated glass smooth. And it accelerated quickly. There were no vibrations from the motors at any speed. They let me take it out for 30 minutes, so I took it to the worst roads I knew of in Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. I even took it on one of the roads under construction. The Air suspension handled every bump, imperfection and crack in the road thrown at it. I took it on the freeway near Apple's Spaceship campus, and this thing is freaking fast and gets up to speed in no time.
Road Isolation:
IMHO, it was really good. There was some noise from the tires, but it was so minimal I hardly noticed it. There was no excessive suspension noise, body noise, creaking etc. It was well isolated, hardly any NVH that would be bothersome. I'm going to have test drive an EQS to compare it. I sat in an EQS once, but I didn't pay attention. If the EQS is quieter than this, than the EQS is damn quiet .
Now let me talk about stuff I really disliked. I really disliked the gear shift being in the screen. It can be really confusing if you are under pressure and are in a tight spot where you need to shift between D and R. The second thing I disliked was the turn signal stalk replaced by buttons on the steering wheel. The buttons work really well, but you have to glance quickly to make sure you are hitting the right turn signal button. And thirdly, adjusting the mirrors was a bit hassle. I'm not sure if there was an issue with this particular car, but every time I selected a mirror to adjust, it would switch to the other mirror and I would end up messing up the setting and would have to go back. I think this was just an issue with this particular car because it works exactly the same as my Y. Anyway, none of those where deal breakers, because I would eventually get used to the shifting, and the lack of signal stalks and having to use buttons.
All in all, the X is a great SUV. I can see this fully replacing our Sienna. The only thing I would be concerned about is the Insurance cost. Insuring my Y is not cheap, and I'm scared to see what the premium on an X will be
about the X... first off, THANKS for the review. second, you've confirmed everything i thought about the X even though i've not driven one, and also the reasons why the Y would be only an 'ok' purchase for me - maybe a bit better after the refresh. being a nerd, i know i'd like the falcon doors, the self-closing doors, the dual screens, etc. the x is a bit bigger than what i'd want though, but i'd get a 5 seater not the 6 or 7.
anyway, glad you enjoyed it! and glad to see it didn't have the stupid yoke.

It's way better than the Y, yes I can confirm that 😁. It's the best SUV I've driven... so far. The Mercedes EQ is probably better, I won't know that until I test it out.
Oh, I got a whole lineup waiting. Lucid this Thursday, i7 next Tuesday. I'm planning to try out every EV I can get my hands on
I just want to mention that I'm still glad I bought the Y. No regrets, it meets all our families needs. Those that are considering a Model Y should continue to consider it. It's still the perfect midsize SUV at the perfect price. For those that have budgets of $70k and up, are looking for more room and comfort, than the X should be on your radar. And yeah, those falcon wing doors are awesome 😎
