2023 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD
so i figured i'd post a few more thoughts on my quick ioniq 5 test drive.
one thing i thought going into it was that i would like it because the controls are similar to my santa fe. while that's somewhat true, there was still several significant differences.
the whole interior is trying to be minimalist and modern and some of it, especially the very shallow center arm rest / 'storage' compartment, just seemed cheap and not very functional. there's a huge open space under that, but if i don't want my stuff visible to people from outside the car looking in, that's not so great.
the driver's seat on this 'limited' (top trim) had a power 'ottoman' / calf rest, but for me it was utterly useless. doesn't extend high enough of far enough to touch my legs. apparently the idea of it was to provide a better way to rest while recharging... or something.
the dual 12.3" screens fits in with cars like mercedes, but the display on gauge in front of the driver seems very odd. granted, i'm sure i could get used to it. but the 'star wars' death star tunnel display left me scratching my head a bit.
the drive itself was 'typical ev' - instant torque, very strong, smooth, quiet, effortless.
however, to me it's hard to describe but feels... boring? i felt the same way about driving a tesla model 3 and pretty sure i'd feel the same way in a model y. i didn't feel it as much driving a mercedes eqs suv, probably because it was so nice inside and the air suspension ride was amazing.
the build quality was EXCELLENT and everything felt good, except the odd door handles that are a relatively small bar that pops out, to be pulled to open the door. the seats were exceptionally comfortable.
so i guess i wasn't wow'ed by it, but it's very nice.

Try a Model 3 Performance and tell me that's boring! Model Y Long Range and Performance I wouldn't call fun, but put your foot down for some thrills

To me driving the Model Y isn't what I would call fun, but relaxing and enjoyable. I really enjoy driving it and actually look forward to it. My Polestar is what I would call fun, especially when people driving "fast cars" have no idea what just happened
. It's also relaxing to drive when I take it easy. BTW, I drive easy about 99 percent of the time, even when I drive the Polestar. The only thing I wish the Model Y had was the option for adding Air suspension. The suspension is pretty good, but the option of having Air Suspension is better. I would have definitely added it if it was an available option. But I guess Tesla is reserving it for their flagship S and X

It may sound silly, but our Model 3 makes other cars seem old skool. Not bad, just old skool.. That's my experience.
Now, starting every day with a full tank has to be experienced.
Perhaps... Here's my take. I will never do a 0-60 run. But I merge onto the freeway, do lane changes, pull outta turn and up to speed all the time. The right-now quickness never gets old. Sometimes I think it is a safety item. One pedal driving is the bomb!

I've never driven any EV with that feature activated so I can't comment from that point of view, however I have been in multiple Tesla Uber's with it on and my experience has been wildly unpleasant every single time. Getting thrown around all over the damn car because the driver can't modulate his/her foot to make acceleration and deceleration smooth. Driving like it's an on off switch.
Until I experience it on my own, my perspective is unfortunately negative.

The deals are out there - just have to find the dealer that's willing to play ball......

With insurance, there is an option to add Gap coverage where they will cover the difference in case the value of the car is less than you owe. Someone who knows more about leasing can weigh in, but I understand is if you have equity in the car, you would probably get money back from the leasing company
