Couple of quick updates as I inch closer to 2K miles. My vent issue seems to have self resolved. Not sure exactly when, but I've got full movement on it now. I've also found a more comfortable seating position, just had to sit a bit more upright than I did in the Tesla.

I bet you it's a hidden software update. We get these in my Polestar all the time. I was having an issue with the Polestar HVAC...the heat would occasionally not come on and blow cold air. Had to reboot the infotainment to fix it. It suddenly went away
Learned something new today. Getting the car to the requested state of charge will override any time based scheduled charging you have at home.
Yesterday we did a bunch of driving and ran the car from ~80% to 18%. I have charging scheduled to start at 11PM and end at 8AM. I checked this morning at 7 to see how far it got and the app said there was an hour left to charge and that the session started at 8:20. Not a big deal, but an interesting surprise.
Edit: after browsing the Rivian forum, might just be a bug. Other people have seen this happening support is confused too.

You know what they say...a computer on wheels. Thank the Gods it doesn't run Windows . BTW, I read somewhere that EA stations run Win XP embedded, which is probably why their chargers crash

it's not a bug, it's a 'feature'
so it started at 8:20pm because that's when it thought it had to start in order to meet the desired state of charge by the desired end time?
Started at 8:20 because that's when I plugged it in Timing working out is just a happy surprise I think. I know I got partial charges in the past before I adjusted my charging schedule so more than likely a bug. Needing to charge for 12 hours to go from 18 -> 80% is a new one for me though. Big truck is thirsty!
Thanks Elon Really smooth experience. Got things plugged in and started charging within 30-45 seconds. Time is only that long because I’m charging to 90. Going up a mountain today and don’t want to stop at an EA on the way home. Maxed out around 155kW.
This station is pretty poorly rated on PlugShare because the non-Tesla folks don’t know how to use the app to detach the adapter. Aside from the cord length not being ideal I had no problems
Took about 45 minutes to go from 33 -> 90. 33 -> 80 took about 30 minutes and 80-90 took the last 15. Throttled pretty hard around 70~75.
Made it back home with 22% so I probably could've skipped the extra 10%
It's the last 10 percent that takes longer than going from 10 percent to 80 percent. I basically follow the map planner (on both the Polestar and Tesla), it will never let you down and make your trip faster. You could have easily saved that 30 minutes. I used to do the same thing, BTW. I would try and cram in that extra 10 percent, just in case, but all I did was waste 30 minutes I could have used getting to my destination faster

The northeast is severely underserved by chargers compared to California. On the way home, there were 3 EA stations I could've passed. On plugshare, one of them was deemed the slowest EA in the country with no one getting more than 50kW over the last 2 months, one of them had 3 chargers down, and the last one was always crowded (probably because the other 2 are garbage). Other charging options were 50kW and/or located in a car dealership
My buddy took delivery of his R1S (Quad motor) last week and I spent some time riding in it and driving it over the weekend. A few observations (as a Tesla owner as well) -
- Overall, I really like it. I think as a brand they are doing some really cool things and will have a very loyal fan base. Some of the quirks like the bird chirp sound it makes when it locks as you walk away, the hidden flashlight, camping mode, etc. really solidify the potential customer base.
- Very solid build feel - doors feel heavy/substantial. Interior quality is really nice - lots of soft touch surfaces. Has the perfect blend of feeling rugged and luxurious all at once.
- Love how the frunk opens and closes with the push of a button - a nice touch compared to my MYP (which is more like opening a traditional hood).
- Love the hidden bluetooth speaker and flashlight. Great ideas.
- Nice seating position for all passengers, 3rd row is fine for kids or adults (short trip for adults)
- Interesting having Alexa be the voice command system. Although it completely botched our attempt to do voice command of an address as our destination..
- Not sure I'd want it adjusting the ride height as often as it does, wonder if that can be configured or disabled.
- Drives very nice, even with the monster off road tires his came with. Something about the driving position, shape of the hood, and steering/turning feel at times reminded me of a Wrangler (not in a bad way)
- I felt like I could hear the motor(s) quite a bit more while accelerating compared to any Tesla I've ever driven. More of a high pitched sound. Acceleration is great and the one pedal driving sensation feels pretty similar to Tesla, although I think Tesla feels smoother for some reason (I know it's weird since there are no gears).
- Back up camera didn't seem to be a very crisp image, looked slightly blurry/grainy to me. Tesla's back up camera is really clear and high resolution.
I asked my friend if he had discovered any bugs or glitches yet and he said there were only a couple of minor things (both dealing with the infotainment screen). I came away very impressed. I guess the Model X would compete with this in terms of size, just seems like they're two very different vehicles. I'm rooting for Rivian to succeed and genuinely think they will. Based on my experience, I'd definitely be a customer of the R1T or the R1S.
