Default Water on Rear Floor????

I did a search before submitting this post but could not find any previous threads on this topic.

1997 ES300 - 119K - just got it about 4 weeks ago from a friend of a friend.

It's summer here in TX - 100 degrees - no rain in weeks - yesterday afternoon I went to throw a computer bag on the back floor and discovered that the floor mats and carpeting were soaking wet. Drenched - and on both sides!?

I pulled out the mats, parked the car with the windows down as much as possible for the rest of the day. Things were beginning to dry out.

Went out to the garage this morning to check on the car and - guess what? Floors soaked again.

Surely the A/C drip line doesn't run under the passenger floor? And we have had no rain. And I didn't park the car under anybody's sprinklers.

What in the world can be happening? Is this like crop circles or the Bermuda Triangle or something?

Happened to my '97 also. It was the AC condensation. A bug blocked it.

I just got this car 4 weeks ago - it was a repo; a friend who owns a bank sold it to me.

I cralwled down in the back and looked under the front seats and I see two metal outlets - I asume those are hot/cold air vents for the rear passengers? And the source of the water/condensation?

Is this a "gota take it to a shop to be fixed" thing or can it be unplugged by the owner?

(My 69 VW Squareback did a similar thing when leaves would clog the drains uner the cowl. Only it was water all over the driver's feet every time it rained).

I was down at my local subaru dealership today (my main client) and the service director there is familar with Lexi and knew exaclty the problem. My evaporator canister/drain/container (I can't remember the word he used) is plugged and the water is backing up and runnng out the vents under the front seats and onto the rear foot wells (instead of onto the garage floor).

Said it's a simple clean-out but the car has to be on a rack. Grrrr - gotta go find a rack now.

find out the location for us. the musty smell most of us experience from our AC is because of a similarly clogged drain plug and cabin filter.

Default Got The Answer

Took the car to a repair shop today. We put it up on the rack.

There is a rubber hose nib extending below the belly pan just to right of the enigne as you are standing undreneath the car facing the rear. It was kind of pushed up into the pan and was clogged with dirt and gunk. the tech pulled it down and removed the dirt and gunk and a small trickle of water came out. Hmmm, big deal, probably not the cause of the problem.

Then he took an air hose with a needle on the end and shot it up into the hose to break any clog that might be in there.

WHOOSH! A gallon (and I am not exaggerating) of water came pouring out of the hose splashing those of us standing underneath the car.

On te drive home I could feel the air inside the car dry out and return to normal. A/C fixed and water no longer gathering on the floor. With luck, problem solved.

Now all I gotta do is park the car outside for a few days in the sun to dry the carpets out.

It cost me $-0-.

The guy who owns the shop knows some buddies of mine at the Subaru dealership where I contract. (I built and operate www.hot-subaru.com)

The shop is in Dallas TX. (Plano, TX to be precise).
