New ES looks like a Temu Cybertruck sedan. Ugh.

8th gen ES will be available in dirt cheap leases or 0% interest with $5,000 cash back summer 2027.
I guarantee it.

hi,

I'm new to the forum, unfortunately not for good reasons.

a year ago, i needed a new car because my old one died on me.
since i didn't want to buy the aging and about to be replace ES, i have decided to buy the 2025 Camry and wait for the new ES.

now that I've seen it ... at first i though it's a joke or leaked bs. i can't believe the direction they have taken with the new design.
it looks like any other generic Chinese out there.

in my frustration i have opened a petition regarding the change, if you feel like me please chime in.

Petition - 2026 Lexus ES
With all due respect, what do you possibly imagine any of this will accomplish?
Lexus no doubt spent hundreds of millions and years of work redesigning the car and the approach had to have been approved by senior levels at both Lexus and parent Toyota. Even if they come to believe that they made a big mistake nothing can change anytime soon. Cars take years to develop and design. Yes, they could get rid of that awful side swoop thing I suppose, but even something as seemingly small as that would require months of work, retooling, etc. - in other words, not going to happen anytime soon.

As for the Chinese market it might succeed. Clearly this was not aimed that hard for North America for we have told the automotive world that sedans as passé and relatively few buyers want them.

I really dislike the Toyota-fication of Lexus, with cheaper looking interiors and a far less luxurious feel and appearance than in the past, but this is the path they have set out on and only time will tell. But petitions and pleas will have no effect on it.

Nothing probably , but no harm in letting them them know.
I say what i think regardless, maybe others think like me.

btw: i think that all non Chinese automakers are fucked in China no matter what.
they don't need them anymore .

The sales of this new ES will say the most. I would be surprised if they didn't pull it after a year or so in the US market. But what will they replace it with? Maybe it will be the end of the ES. Or in due time, they will come out with another model saying the ES was old and didn't sell. Truthfully, don't know numbers but I see alot of ES's in my area. I doubt these same buyers would by the 2026. My biggest gripe is the size. Too long for me.

I am sure it will not sell, especially not the EV. I hope they will change some things for the 2027MY.

I think Lexus was caught flat footed (as were many other car companies). When they planned/designed the 8ES, EVs looked like the wave of the future. However, things didn't pan out that way. At least not in the USA.

I don't think that the shortcomings of the 8ES can be addressed in a model year. I'm hoping they course correct with the 9ES if there is one.

Most likely it will be the end of the ES. In America, at least.

But in my mind, the 35-year lineage of the ES already ended. Last month, when 7ES production closed down. Gone are restrained styling, smooth V6 power, fragrant leather and fine wood, and high-quality tactile controls. Call a car without any of these qualities whatever you want, but I won't call it an ES.

I think it depends on whether the Crown continues. If it does, then it would provide a platform for a new ES

I bet that next year model will offer body color door trims in attempt to buy some time before major redesign.

I know I'm in the minority but I actually like the design... I'm holding out full opinion because I want to see it in person and drive it. But I don't think it's as bad as everyone thinks. The old ES's while nice were...dated...and the seats were sooo uncomfy.... so we shall all see

I don't see the now last gen as dated at all, they just aren't crossovers/trucks/SUVs like every other brand seems to be pushing in the USA. I haven't had a problem with the seats at all, but I'm on the thinner side. The seats tend to be unforgiving if you're heavier/wider.

My main problem with the new ES is that it looks very much more like a Camry/Charger/Tesla hybrid, and I'm not about that.
