A regular CVT, the one that gets lots of complaints about the noises, loud whining winding out sound, and rubbery behavior, is purely mechanical and uses pulleys and a belt to vary ratios. The belts can fail and need adjustment. An E-CVT uses planetary gears and electric motors to accomplish changes, very smoothly. Without all the mechanicals in a CVT, an E-CVT is very reliable and feels like a “real” transmission.
ecvt feels nothing like a conventional trans.

Nothing alike. CVT, even if electronic, still drones and rubberbandish.

ECVT automatic

Conventional automatic

Actually I want the Model S but so darn expensive. Had the Model 3 been a hatchback in disguise like the Model S, oh baby there would be a blue Performance M3 with white interior on my driveway by now.
true i want model S too. every time i see one i'm like.. wow that looks good. as much as i hate white cars, it looks good in white and i'd really consider it. 22 and up only though. on the other hand i like being a bit higher up than a model S, driving wise. i feel like a Model S though looks good, would result in a "sitting on the floor" feeling which i dont like. i do love my car still, it's just a bit of "grass is greener" syndrome where you start to itch for something new. but the Y really does make me happy every time i drive it. it does everything so perfectly all the time.

That isn't the eCVT causing the "droning" you hear in that Lexus ES300h acceleration test video. Rather, it is the noise of the 4-cylinder A25A-FXS engine under high or maximum power output operating conditions. YouTube reviews of the Lexus ES 250 AWD, which uses the A25A-FKS version of the same engine design, also make note of the same sort of engine noise under high or maximum power output operating conditions.

Even so, it can't compare to the enjoyable growl of a V6 under throttle. On my 300h, when the audio system is on and Sports mode is used, it generates a fake engine sound that is more pleasant than the basic A25A-FXS audio captured. Not sure why it doesn't come through more clearly in the video while in Sport mode, maybe the audio volume was very low.

The Lexus ES300h acceleration test video was shot in India. Perhaps, a Lexus ES300h sold in India has some build differences in the electrical systems configuration that doesn't enable the fake engine sound "feature" or has a Personalization option that allows the feature to be turned off if one so desires.
