Hello Everyone,
I can you can connect your iPhone to the car's USB and it runs CarPlay but when it's not plugged it says projection. Does this mean if I get an HDMI to USB adapter I can connect my laptop?
Has anyone tried?

 

Would be neat if it was that easy. The AI boxes usually talk through carplay. There's also the autopro x coming out to run dex, which would be similar in functionality to what you're talking about.

 

Isnt that for Android. I need something for Apple.

I doubt it will work. The car manufactures take great effort to keep people from projecting movies from their phones to the screen.

If it works - Let us know!!!! I would be watching movies the whole way home! lol

 

There's thousands of devices that will display movies on the screen. Search for AI boxes.

 

IT WORKS!!!!

I use this => When its plugged in the car thinks it is carplay, then I plug in the Lighting to HDMI to it and VOILA my phone is mirrored.
Two issues.
1) if its not landscape it's tiny.
2) When landscape it's not full screen. Could be because I have navigation and it's a wide screen.

I want to get another Lightning to HDMI cable as the one i got from Amazon is loose the connect just falls out. Keep you guys posted but in short YES YOU CAN MIRROR YOUR PHONE!

 

Cool. I thought you were trying with MacBook for some reason. Android can mirror without any extra hardware with aaad app (XDA forums). but like you said, it's either portrait and cut off, or landscape and tiny. The best/easiest solution is ai box. it will do full screen.

 

I tried 3 different AI Boxes all utter garbage. If you don't have a touchscreen they are useless. My 2021 does not have a touchscreen.

 

They take some getting used to if you use the touchpad. It's double tap to drag rather than push down.
Nothing stopping you from using a BT controller of your choice
