Default oil change schedule

At $130+ for a freagin oil change, is anyone on here stretching their changes to every 7500-10,000 miles? Seems silly to do a 5000 mile oil change since it’s synthetic and I baby my sedan…

Just did my first oil change at 9500 miles… am i a bad owner?

5,000 for me. oil is cheap. Yeah i'd say 9,500 miles is pushing it. i did my first oil change at 600 miles. LOL. then another at 5k, then 10k. It's just nice to drain the oil from the stuff floating around from machining... stuff that may get past the filter. plus hybrid engines start and stop often so they don't get time to burn moisture and can get fuel diluted.

This subject has been debated to death. Some say 5k some say 10k... No need for another thread that goes nowhere... And I don't think anyone is being cheap for changing when the maker of the car recommends...

Unless we learn that manufacturer recommendations are largely for marketing & brand perception reasons rather than scientific ones.

Over the course of 100,000 miles -- If we're right, we've saved an engine. If you're right, you've saved $250 by skipping five oil changes. =p

It’s saving an additional 10 changes over the course
of 100K miles so more like savings of $1500 rather than $250…

I believe that every 10K might be fine. But I voted for 5K and plan on going that route. With my 2017, I drove to 225K miles and changed it every 10K miles. No oil consumption whatsoever. The oil still looked practically clean when I changed it. However, "The Car Care Nut" on YouTube convinced me otherwise and this Dynamic Force engine in the 7G isn't the same animal as the 2AR-FXE in the 6th gen 300h. So I don't know for sure if the experience in my 6G will be the same as the 7G.

As such, I'm playing it safe since I plan on keeping it for a VERY long time, considering how much I had to pay for it.....

My last car I did about every 7500mi on average and that engine was fine up to the 100k miles I had it. However, I am going with 5k oil changes for my Lexus.

I only change when the MID remind me to do so. Usually 6-7K.

Tough enough to prove your point on oil changes - even tougher for trans fluid when I see folks with 200K plus miles on original trans fluid.

Most of you do not do UOA and do not monitor gas fuel dilution in GDI engines. All these arguments are useless without concrete data. Please dont compare your old toyota engines that ran fine to 200k miles with 10k oil changes, its not the same thing. Its all urban tales.

I have to correct my math a bit. in 100k miles, one should do 20 oil changes. But if you follow 10k intervals, that's 10 oil changes. So the math should be $50 per oil change (materials/DIY) x 10 = $500.

I don't consider taking it to a shop @ $150 per oil change cause that's silly.

with kirkland oil at costco its $20 for 5qt, oil filter can still be changed every 10k miles, that should change $500 to $250.
