My '19 ES350 FSport battery just died and luckily Lexus replaced it for free under warranty. I am just wondering why my original battery has such a short life. My car was original purchased new in mid September 2019 (35 months ago) and currently at 21K miles. Also my '17 GX460 battery died after 4 yrs and out of warranty. I know battery will typically last between3 to 5 years. However, I saw someone is still running Lexus original battery for 7 years and counting. Does Lexus battery brand supposed to be better (last longer) than others?

 

There's only about 3 suppliers worldwide for all car batteries. so no such thing as a "lexus battery" in fact most parts on any car are sourced from a few major suppliers. manufacturer's don't make as much as you think. it's all business & contracts. actually the case for most products on earth. iphone too...

anyway 3-5 years is about right. you can have a longer lasting battery if it is in the trunk (Hybrid models) since the conditions are better.

 

Where one lives has an impact on the life expectancy of the battery as well.

 

Yep plenty of variables so there's no real answer to your question. Plus you don't drive all that much and that presumably has a detrimental impact on battery longevity. I replace at four years as a preventive measure. Did that with my wife's RX last Jan even though it tested just fine. I'll probably do the same with my 19 ES before this winter.

 

I just replaced mine, car is 2 years and 9 months old. Lexus dealer said there is no warranty on new car battery.

 

WTF? Aftermarket batteries have warranties, presumably including those bought from Lexus dealers.

I've just replaced mine yesterday free of charge at local Lexus dealership. Mine is 35 months old. You should contact Lexus to get your money back.

 

It depends upon whether or not the failure occurred due to a basic warranty exclusionary reason. The [US] Lexus support web site's FAQ item WHAT WARRANTY COVERAGE DOES MY BATTERY HAVE? has the details on Lexus OEM batteries and Lexus Genuine replacement batteries.

If you didn't have a warranty exclusionary reason, your OEM battery warranty coverage should have been "...48 months* or 50,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first." (The * on 48 months applies only to hybrid and LFA vehicles.)

I don't know what you can do to recover the cost which presumably was a warranty item since I assume you authorized the replacement at your cost, paid for it, and most likely didn't ask for the old battery back so you would have evidence to refute a potential dealer's claim of an exclusionary reason for non-coverage.

 

I called the dealership and was told there was no coverage on the battery that comes new in the cars. I have to say, I was not happy. I would had to drive about 270 miles around trip so I just dropped it and bought a new replacement battery at my local Toyota dealer. I don't think I will ever buy a car from that dealer again.Not good service after the sale.

 

My 2018 ES had a bad battery. Dealer replaced for free after 2.5 years.

I drove it less than 5,000 miles the last year I had it.

I still decided on buying an Interstate AGM battery and used a battery tender.

Hoping my new 2022 ES 300h will not have similar issues.

 

I'd contact the Lexus zone office and relay my displeasure. If nothing else, you'll have had the satisfaction of knowing you made TWO Lexus entities tell you to go eff yourself.
