Default ES 300h standard headlights

Hi guys,

New ES on the way, waiting on delivery end of June.
Question about headlights - anyone here with Bi-LED ones , NOT the tripple beam.

How is the visibility with the low beam? I saw few photos in a facebook group - high beam was OK , but low beam was pretty bad. So I was wondering if its only this particular car or they are all like that.

Photos will be much appreciated, thanks.

P.S.
Talking about ES model of 2022 or 2021.

I have a 2019 with the standard headlights which will have the same headlights as the 2021, and probably the 2022. The headlights are very good, until you compare them to the triple beam lights, and then they are just OK. They are better than the lights on my 2015 ES, but not quite as good as the triple beam lights on my old 2016 NX. Frankly, I think they appear to illuminate better than the same Bi-LED lights on my 2021 RX. The factory seems to aim headlights a bit low on SUVs (to avoid oncoming traffic?) and they don’t seem to reach out as well as the ES lights.

Bottom line: I think you will be happy with the lights as they are just fine. It is easy to second guess yourself when the excitement of a new vehicle is building and reading social media posts can really cause you to debate your decision. That said, from my experience, I do believe the triple beam lights are superior and worth the extra cost but it wouldn’t be a make or break decision for me.

I've stated this proprietary and somewhat secret info before, but the Headlights in your car (and most cars for that matter) are industry standard and are off the shelf shared with Mazda, Ford, Toyota, etc. So it's not like OMG SECRET LEXUS LIGHT ENGINEERS.

Nah. it's just stuff all the car maker order up from the same supplier with various cosmetic surrounds etc.

So with that out of the way, they're just fine. nothing more nothing less.

Just like CT said. This is well known, published information, no secret. It's the same headlight unit from a third-party supplier that's used in, I think, the Mazda CX-5, Ford Edge, the deceased Mazda6, and a few other mid-priced models. As the others said, perfectly OK, neither the best nor the worst.

In their headlight tests IIHS gives the ES with the standard headlights an A (acceptable) and with the triple beams a G (Good). Good is a higher rating vs. Acceptable.

Four ratings: Good, Acceptable, Marginal, Poor.

So you could say you're choosing between A headlights and B or B- headlights.

I’ve had zero issues with my standard headlights and I think they lock the road up very well. I also love the side illumination feature when turning the wheel.

I'm driving a 2020 ES 300h with the Bi-LED headlights. In the beginning, I found the lights were adjusted to low, so the light wasn't reaching far enough. I had them adjusted twice. The first time they adjusted the lights as high as it was legally allowed. It was very nice for me, but not for the cars on the other side of the road. Also the high beam went to much up in the air. So I went back and had them lowered a bit. The illumination of the road is perfect, and I am very happy with them. They outperform the headlights of my previous cars.

Once you've been in a car with Triple beams, there's no going back. Not only it illuminates way better than the standard beam, but it also gives your car a distinct and expensive looks to it (similar to a car rims that really completes a car beautifully). Every time I see a ES with standard lights on the road, I always reminds myself that I made the right decision to pick the UL pack with the triple beams.

Given the demographic of ES buyers triple beams should be a strong recommendation. Granted some of us still have good eyesight now and probably into the future. Why chance it if you are going to keep vehicle long term? Most buyers can comfortably afford triple beams option. My eyesight isn't as good as they were once a few years back and it didn't hit me until I drove at night. Now I avoid night driving without triple beams.
