Oil change intervals
I took delivery of my 2020 ES 350 on 4/20/20. I now have just 3747 miles on her and have a question concerning oil changes. I went ahead and took her in at 1 year of ownership and had the oil changed since it was free. I know the oil change interval is 10K miles or one year, whichever comes first. Is it harmful to wait until hitting the actual mileage to have the oil changed? Thanks in advance.
You should go by the manufacturer's recommendations. 10k or one year... You're due in April of this year... BTW, there are many, many posts regarding advice for OCI. You can find them by doing a search...
Stop repeating Car Care Nut's personal *opinion* on oil changes. His recommendation is not based on science such as oil analysis from laboratories, remember he gets paid more if people change their oil more often. If you feel better go ahead but it's a complete waste of money, time, and resources to change prior to 10K miles for the vast majority of drivers, more-so if you have a hybrid engine. Some people "feel better" to make emotional decisions like that rather than base decisions on science and data.
While your vehicle is under warranty, stick to one year or 10K miles to maintain your warranty coverage. Once that's gone, feel free to do whatever you want at your own risk.
The first post of this thread has actual laboratory analysis results on the A25A-FXS engine with an oil analysis at 5K miles (first page of the thread) and 10K miles for the first oil change (3rd page of the thread) -- https://www.rav4world.com/threads/r4...alysis.314341/ - short answer is both are as expected in terms of results, and of no concern.

I think that time is just as important as miles. I am changing mine every 5,000 miles because I plan on keeping my car a long time.
I think AMD’s advice is based on his experience as a Master Technician, oil changes are cheap insurance.

This report is useless, no TBN and no fuel % measurement. Yes, oil needs to be tested to see if your driving pattern and specific engine can do full 10k miles.

Read your manual. I think that in Canada the OCI is different from the states. From previous Canadian owners posts I believe it to be less than 10k MILES...
language barrier bro...whenever we say 10K in Canada i. regards to cars, it means 10,000 km
disregard my post

Also if you were to pick a time to do 2x OCI oil changes, it would be early in your car's life, not later, as you imply in your 2nd paragraph there.
I've built and re-built plenty of cars and engines to know changing your oil frequently is better than not. You don't need to do 3k, or even 5k. But i wouldn't go beyond 7-7.5k. 10k is pushing it. Right now I'm planning on doing it between 5 and 7k. Maybe a middle ground.
On BMWs it would be an easier pill to swallow as those cars hold 7 quarts and have large filters.
Again... oil is cheap.
