Default Remote Engine Starter

Is any one can run the car with key fob, or just throw Enform App?

I was using Techstream to do some customize and I found this

I'm not sure is that only for Enform App

The car may be started with only the key fob. It must be in range of the car - 15 -25 feet...

If you're close enough to lock or unlock, you're in range to remote start with the fob. I do it every morning in the winter months.

What OBDII connector did you purchase? I just found the Techstream v15 and was wondering if there are any specifics/needs that it requires to run properly(Being in IT I know some cables can be finicky).

Hate to bring an old thread up but I’m buying a used 2019 ES today. I know the fob works on my RX but was wondering if it was on all the 2019 ES’s also.

Yes, but you have to ask your dealer to activate it.

It works every time on my ES and almost never on my wife's RX.

Key fob stops after a year on the 2019's and you have to start paying for it...

I pay for remote - I think $80/year for the ES and a bit more for the RX which is a 17. But it seems the fob continues to work even after you stop paying for it at least from what I've read here and on a Toyota forum.

Hmmm. I didn't know that. If I had I wouldn't pay for the smartphone. I thought after a year for the 2019's and two years for the 2020's that no free remote either way... If anyone has a definitive answer let us know please.

Update: Did some checking and you're correct Mike. The key fob will remote start the car from MY 2018 on even after the free trial expires. Just saved me $80.00.

Yeah only downside, you have to be within range.

In what type of scenario would you use the key fob instead of the app? Especially since our vehicles shut off the engine when entering the cabin.

More than half the time the app doesn't work. And I don't need it now that I know I can start the car (for free) with the smartkey. I stand at my front door and press the buttons. And the engine shuts off using the key or the app so what's the difference?

The app works fine for me but still takes a minute or so to launch etc. Fob a much quicker process. Three presses, two seconds later you're done.

I re subscribed with Lexus this past December for $80.00 to use the app and smartkey. Come December 2021 I won't be sending Lexus another $80.00 because I don't need the app.
Another reason why I like this forum so much... Always something to learn.
