I picked up my LS500 in November, the car was still on standard time. I had to turn it off for it to show the correct time. I turned it on last Sunday to change the time, and I'm sure I'll have to do the same in November 2019. I don't have a 2019 ES, but do have two older ES350s.

the GPS knows were you are and your daylight saving time

Yes it does. This has been the way the LS has worked for years. I had similar setups on a 2008, 2012, 2014 and 2017 LS 460s. GPS does not handle daylight savings time. I have a Citizen world watch and it works the same way. It will give me accurate time, but I have to manually set whether it's DST or standard time -- and I have to do that in every timezone that I visit. I was in Portland in mid February and I set the time using GPS thinking it would spring back 3 hours from eastern time. It did not. I had to turn toggle DST/standard time to get it to show the right time.

Phones use cell towers to get their time, not GPS. So while all smartphones have GPS capability, they don't get their time from GPS satellites, they get it from the cell tower that they are connected to.

No Lexus vehicle adjusts for DST automatically, the auto by GPS is only if you drive out of the timezone, or if the clock was wrong after a dead battery.

You need to toggle this setting off again in the fall.

Hmmm. The wife's Honda changes in the Spring and back in the fall. Never have to change the clock. Even has a sunglass holder... I see some disparity here...

I had to change to DST manually, but it doesn't make sense to me. Time is always set relative to UTC (GMT). For example, Mountain time is UTC -6 during DST, and UTC -7 during Standard time. In order to correctly set the time in my car, it HAS to know the difference between DST and ST. It seems like it would have to be ignored purpose.

Daylight Saving Time in the United States

With occasional legislative adjustments and several anomalies, it makes more sense to manually toggle it on and off.

If Congress (for example) ends DST, the Honda will need a software upgrade. If Arizona begins to observe it, as Indiana did in 2006, another upgrade.

Imagine trying to automatically turn DST off in most of Arizona but keeping it on when on tribal land.

Not all States in the US and Countries around the world observe daylight saving time. Lexus is an international brand.

How about the oil dilution issue - Lexus doesn't have that either🤔

You can choose to utilize the automatic changes or just leave it on standard time. No software upgrades required... As far as changing the clock in my new Lexus, I don't view it as a problem. Just another setting...
