TouchPad Experience Requested
I have been looking for a mid-size Luxury vehicle for some time. I decided that the 2019 ES 350 was my best choice for numerous reasons. My other choice would have been the Avalon, but hardly any are sold, Lexus branding appears to be more accepted.
Having checked out the ES350, my only concern was the ability to use the Touchpad to manage the Infotainment system. The sales agent, who used to be a Delivery Specialist, indicated that most common functions are still available as buttons on steering wheel or below the screen.
Can I get some feedback from owners, as to how long it took to get comfortable with the Touchpad? And is there anything in particular you find difficult to deal with? I understand that 'Setup' stuff might be a little time-consuming, but I'm wondering about the day-to-day experience.
Thank you.

Pole Position
I don’t yet have a 2019, but I use the touchpad on my NX all the time. I agree with mikemu30. It takes a minor bit of adjustment but you quickly get used to it. The criticisms are blown out of proportion in my humble opinion.

I'm not a fan of the touch pad. My 2019 will be almost 3 months old in March and I'm still adjusting. Sometimes you press too hard, sometimes too soft. Sometimes you go past the item you want to select and have to go back. Not all of the features are available on the steering wheel. All of this while your eyes are on the display and NOT THE ROAD...

While I agree the criticism is a bit hyped, i dont have a problem using it and like that that your not reaaching to touch the screen and getting it all smudged etc. . it takes a short while to get used to it but becomes pretty intuitive. my main complaints are that it does sometimes overshoot if you use the flick , and that ANYTHING that touches it activates it including the cord you may have plugged into your phone etc..

I've had it almost two months and it's now second nature to me. Unlike touchpads on computers, this one is much more controlled. It sort of clicks to the next option. More of a direction-pad than a true touch pad.

I don't own an ES yet (special order gets delivered in April) but I have spent about 3 hours using the touch pad between two test drives and spending time in the car playing with the infotainment system.
I'm not a huge fan of the touch pad but it's not bad at all. Of all the non-touch screen infotainment controls I've used I think the touch pad is the best. It's better than both the old Lexus sliding joystick and the dial that some other companies use.
Personally I would prefer a touch screen but the location of the screen makes a touch screen a bit out of reach. Personally I like the location of the screen. I think it's in better view while driving and I think it's a fair trade off for not having a touch screen.

It almost seems to learn some of your prior moves - for example, I often swipe left to display the presets and it jumps to that button somehow even though there are choices above and below that one. Maybe just luck.

I still hate touchpad even after 4 months of trying. Maybe it's just me, I always think that I am going to miss the icon I want and start moving my fingers slowly which takes longer. I am willing to pay up to $599 for wheel replacement for touchpad.
