My AC seems to be turned on always during auto mode. It is winter time and I don't need the AC on. I can set to 80 degrees internally and AC will still be on. The only way to turn off AC seems to be turn off AUTO mode but I feel like I missing the best feature.

Does everyone run in AUTO mode with AC on or in Manual mode?

lots of information on this. Air Conditioner doesn't mean cold air, it means conditioned (i.e. clean) air.

the car uses the AC compressor as a dehumidifier as well as to cool the air. This helps keep mold out of the vents and related system parts.

 

All cars these days pretty much do this. Now stop listening to AM radio

The A/C off button in the Climate screen should be used if you are driving with the windows/sunroof open.
Notice however that when you tap HVAC "Auto" that the A/C comes back on.

Cycling the compressor during the winter keeps lubricate circulating through the pump. My Dad would
never press the A/C button between October and April and Mom would jab it on the first hot spring day.
Dad replaced at least two (Plymouth) compressors cursing the whole while about junk MoPar parts...

 

AC always turns back on if you hit auto mode even for heating. My 2014 ES300h has a separate AC button so I can see it turn on. It uses only 100-200W in winter compared to 1500W in summer for cooling. The AC compressor runs to cool down and dehumidify cabin air before it's warmed up again by the heater core, otherwise the cabin quickly fogs up from the moisture in occupants' breath. Fogged up windows in a stationary car usually means one thing 😁

Ahh. Looking out the window at a light sleet starting to fall, open windows did not come to mind. Enjoy the wind and sun.

 

put it on auto and let it do its thing, I've not touched the AC controls on any car I have owned in 10 years, all with auto, I set the temp to 72° and leave it on Auto. I also live in SoCal, I open the sunroof and windows nearly every drive, but leave the HVAC on auto, I see really no reason to mess with it.

now on my '39 Ford Tudor, only AC I have is good old 4/60 AC.. -- 4 windows down 60 mph..

 

I bet the 39 Ford 4/60 never needed repairs. Very funny I also leave my cars in AUTO mode ALL THE TIME.

 

I built it as a street rod back in the 1990s, recently it has required some TLC. frozen door latches (80 years old), some leaking in the trunk after the last rains in SoCal (40 year old weather stripping), Carb rebuild, etc. things you would expect after 20+ years since the last build, and 40- 80 years on some of the original parts.

 

Sounds like a fun toy!
