Default What are you thoughts on ceramic coating for new cars?

Is it really necessary to put any coating over a new car's clear coat?
Are ceramic coatings better than waxes?

Certainly some wax every so often.

I have Opti-Coat Pro + on my 2018 UL Atomic Silver. It was expensive but I love it. Nothing sticks to it and I have a 7 year warranty. Washing is a breeze with the no rinse cleaner they give you. 2 gallons distilled water and 1 ounce cleaner. Wipe with a sponge and dry with a towel.

Can you tell it's there by looking? I've seen a free cars with some kind of coating(not sure what it was or if it was the same as what you have) and it's very obvious. As much as I like the idea of the protection I didn't like the look of it.

Also, how expensive?

I Have the PPF covering whole front end , planning on doing a G techniq or similar coating , but just trying to do a little research on how it will be on the "self healing clearcoat" factory finish that is on there. dont think it should matter but just want to get as much info first. def the hydrophobic properties of these coatings not only help with protection but make cleaning a breeze.
I would think the coating should only supplement the clears properties , by resisting more of those light scratches etc..

Best other access i bought was the CR spotless water system, for washing. the florida heat , spotty water was always a pain , not only for black paint but the windows. you can literaly wash the car , rinse and let air dry .. no spots.

Here's an estimate I rec'd this morning for the OptiCoat from my local certified dealer (Florida prices). I assume that with a new car, there is no need for paint correction, right?
.
.
Good morning Anthony,We offer two options for ceramic coating: three year coating with a single stage polish $500, or seven year coating with a two stage paint correction $1700

I don’t “see” my coating. After a wash I see what looks like a freshly waxed car, very shiny and a nice gloss. It’s so easy to clean and have a showroom finish all the time. My price for 7 year Opti-Coat Plus was $1299. The car was brand new, so no need for paint correction. However it was polished before the ceramic application. I’m quite happy with the results, especially the ease of cleaning.

I love my ceramic coating.

I actually did it myself and it was easy to do and turned out great.

Do some research, watch some YouTube videos.

Isn't your LS mostly covered in film? Did you coat over that?

The front end is all covered, full hood and fenders too. The coating just goes right over top of it.

Eek! I sent a followup email on asking more information on the pricing. It appears that the regular Opticoat is the $500 job and the OptiCoat Pro is the $1700 job. Wow, that IS expensive and you still need to spend another $400 on paint protection film. Sheesh!

$1700 sounds fishy to me. My OptiCoat Pro Plus was $1299 and has the 7 year warranty.I would shop around.

I would go to Opticoat.com and look at the approved dealers in Florida.

Troy Armstrong is a great Opticoat dealer in Sarasota, Fl and has applied it to two of my cars and done a great job.

the issue is if the car is new at the dealer
u don't have to do paint correction and they have control over the car having it and not having heat from sun and it can cure

so if your asking is it worth it from dealer absolutely yes if your in climates like florida or north east

or want low maintanence.

its much more expensive to do once paint is contaminated and has to be corrected and cleaned

hope this helps
