I suspect you are identifying the fact that when you fade the sound to the rear, you lose most of the volume, correct? This is a design flaw.

Working as intended and intentionally designed.

You are correct, it was designed to operate that way. It is still not comparable to the sound system in the 2016-2018 ES350. I think it is a poor design but that is just my opinion.

A lot of people feel that way, but it's definitely a personal preference rather than a design flaw. I love how it sounds I actually haven't heard a Lexus that doesn't sound like that. My '13 GS, '16 RX, '18 LS, and '19 ES all have a front sound stage and limited rear fill. They were/are all ML systems though.

For those who are not happy with the front biased sound of the ML system, blame George Lucas and his THX sound standards. Compared to monaural or stereo, THX sound standards add a dimension to audio reproduction. The ML system is beyond monaural, stereo, or enhanced quadraphonic. The ML system may or may not be THX certified, but the system is designed to meet this audio standard.

As a followup up to my prior critique of the sound reproduction of the speakers themselves, I am now more positive. I downloaded my CD collection in a non compressed format to a flash drive. The sound is both brighter and with better base response compared to the ML CD player.

What lossless format does the new system play? I haven't seen any conformation of flac compatibility, like most other vehicles in this class. Even Hyundai supports it, but only 44.1kHz/24bit.

It makes sense to you there are 2 rear speakers and a huge sub-woofer in the back but you cant hear any sounds out of them?

You can hear sound but it is not of the same quality as the front speakers and you need the volume at about 40 to hear it.

I am commenting about the Standard Pioneeer system, not the ML system.
