Good news:

Do you think 2019 ES already on the road will be able to get a software update?

Well it's about time that Toyota acknowledges that (according to this article) more than 80% of smartphones are using Android and plans to install it in their vehicles. However I'm not holding my breath as far as waiting to see it in the cars. Although I'm happy that I waited to make the purchase of a new 2019, I'd bet it's a long way off and that those that already bought 2019's won't even get it. Then again, who even knows if this story is true? Lexus should have put it into the newly designed ES series from the start just like Apple... Poor planning...

Watched a review a while back. They said an eventual software update will allow Android auto to work.

I have a 2019 ES with UL package on order which will be delivered around mid October. Although I am positive Android Auto will not get installed that soon, but hopeful for a software update.

This is NOT an official announcement from Toyota so we do not know if this is true, or if it is, what the time-line is for introducing it into the lineup and whether or not it will be available as a retrofit into older models (assuming that hardware and software on older models is compatible).

Don't hold your breath.
