It was the 200k to 400k where you would reap the benefits of changing oil early from beginning. Now that makes sense to me.
More than 50 years ago I took a trip on a Greyhound bus. I looked at the maintenance clipboard and saw that the oil was changed every 3000 miles. That used to be the norm before fuel injection was widely used, as in a typical carbureted V8 the inside cylinders ran rich, which would wash the oil off the cylinder walls, while the outside cylinders would run lean, and so hotter, which would break down the dino oils more quickly.

This video?
I liked the anecdotal @ 12:30 and the explanation of special operating conditions @ 15:40; although our ES manual says "drive primarily" instead of "occasionally".

Some people only focus on the 10k/12mo but the manual clearly states that when driving on those special conditions it's 5k/6mo; and those conditions could apply to a greater number of people who only focus on the 10k/12mo. So when the Lexus Engineers say 10k/mo they are not lying; It's 10k/12mo under their normal expected conditions.

i always like to put objective info out there at least once.. maybe twice. someone may consider or use it. you can argue it's good to brush your teeth daily and you'll still get those who say its not needed and they brush every other day despite there being minimal cost or effort involved to do it daily.

i say let them. beyond your one go at it, don't try too hard to convince them.

What do you mean non-hybrid ES does not?
I have non-hybrid and it has auto stop-start.
I disable it everytime I hit the start engine button though.
I don't like engine stopping and starting.

Depends where you are.
Mine has auto-stop start in Australia.

I didn't have an option to do oil change at 3k miles as I got this car second hand.
If I bought it brand new, I would have 100 percent done it.
I will also do 5-6k miles oil changes from now on.
As the saying goes billions of times..
Oil is $1, the engine is $20k.
