My 2021 ES 350 has just turned 15,000 miles and oil consumption is stable at maybe 1/2 quart or just a bit more every 5,000-7,000 mi. (between changes for me). The owner’s manual suggests this is not unusual and nothing to worry about. I’ll not worry if it stays at this amount.
But I’d like to know, does your car consume:
A. Up to half quart every 5-7 thousand miles
B. Up to a full quart or more every 5-7 thousand miles
C. Up to a half quart 10 thousand miles
D. A full quart or more every 10 thousand miles
E. No oil between changes

For my 2020 at 47k at each oil change it doesn't look like I loose 1 drop. Your situation is not normal no matter what they tell you. Bad thing is if you had this addressed on a service ticket it is permanently on service records for the car and would steer someone away from wanting to buy that car even though the ticket says it is normal which everyone knows it is not. A sales manager will also see that and adjust trade in accordingly. Even my 2001 LS430 does not use anywhere near 1/2 qt between oil changes at 187k miles. At the recommended 10k oil change you are talking about close to a quart.

 

Recommend change oil every 5000 miles or less.

 

Only received the “Not unusual and not to worry” response in an informal, off the record conversation as I was leaving from a routine oil change. No entry on car’s permanent records.

‘22 ES 350, F-Sport. 80,000kms, OCI = 10K kms (about 6300miles), Pennzoil Plat 0w20, 5.4L w/OEM filter change. I don’t believe I lose a drop either. And that is driven in crazy temp swings, here in central Alberta, Canada, mostly hwy. I do drive it hard sometimes, not as much in the city, but aggressive, high RPM (redlining it) passing on the hwy because some idiots like to do the speed limit or less in the left lane, or drive the speed limit exactly (or less) on single lane, secondary highways - STUPID and annoying.

Anyways….. , losing that much oil would worry me.

question: do you just drive in the city and with very short trips, where the engine doesn’t have time to fully warm up? If so, every couple weeks, take it on a 20 min or so highway run. And near the end of your trip, when everything is fully warmed up, punch it and accelerate hard. Let the engine Rev. It’s good for cleaning out carbon and other contaminants.

 

Yes, generally a few nearby errands 3-4 days/wk. less than 500 mi. per month. Will try what you suggest. Can’t hurt. Thanks for your thoughts.
The car is perfect in every other way and I can live with adding 1/2 qt or so between 5-6 thousand mile changes. Actually, if I added none, at change time it would still be between the two dots. So the level is never to the Add point. Hopefully, this bit of ol consumption will gradually decrease as time goes by.

 

My 2019 now at 70K miles - has never consumed a drop. I check it rarely these days but always before I bring it in for the next change. And by the way, same is true for my wife's 2017 RX - I think it's the same engine or similar with about 90K miles.

 

Have owned 8 Toyota and Lexus vehicles since 1974, all purchased new. None ever burned a drop.

 

2019 ES 350 FSport - 37K miles and E - doesn't burn a drop. Previous ES never burned a drop either.

 

I'm at 1145 miles and the oil level has been 1/4" below the full line since day one.
I changed the oil yesterday and drained 5.7 quarts out which agrees with the specs for drain plus filter. What I can't figure out is why when I refilled exactly 5.7 quarts the level was about 3/8" below the full line, definitely below where it started.

Lexus is correct that 5.7 quarts is "for reference only" for filling to the proper level. It requires 6+ quarts to reach the full mark (still not sure exacty how much) and all my dip stick readings were taken on a hot engine after waiting 5-10 minutes.
I'll repeat this at the 5K mark.

 

Your situation is much like what I’ve dealt with for three years, since delivery of my car, new. Maybe we don’t have oil consumption problem —-simply some sort of anomaly in the oil level readings.
Question: You write, “all my dip stick readings were taken on a hot engine after waiting 5 minutes.” My readings were with engine cold—-not driven for at least half a day. What difference would that make? All the oil has returned either way, right? Higher level or lower level when the engine is hot after 5 minutes as opposed to completely cold?

 

Could be the reading is not 100% accurate after engine shutdown within five minutes. But pretty darn close.
