Default Battery replacement...2019 ES Premium

My car/engine battery took a sh_t!

Car would not start...I jumped it off another vehicle, drove around for 30 minutes, next day dead again.

I need a new battery.

I have 31,000 km on the 2019 ES 350.

Replacement battery from Lexus is $308.54 CDN from the dealer.

Anyone have other recommendations for a replacent battery?

I was thinking to buy a deep cycle odyssey battery...these batteries were golden back in my audio/alpine/pontiac grand prix days. I don't drive often, car sits for 1-2 weeks regularly.

Here is the model I'm considering:

I installed a new Interstate battery from Costco a month or so ago:

Group Size: H6 (48) AGM

Your Battery Information
Item Number 1624799 Group Size H6 (48) AGM CCA 760 CA 950 Voltage 12 RC 120 Ah 70 Length 11 Width 6 15/16 Height 7 1/2 Weight 45.4 Termination Code TOP Wet/Dry D

Cost was $169.99
The battery was made in Germany.

FYI - these are really heavy batteries!

I'm still on my original battery at nearly five years and 65K miles. I'm having it changed next week or two but still shows no sign of weakness. I do notice some corrosion on the terminal that is visible.

Corrosion won't hurt your battery if you remove it. Go into the pantry and get some baking soda, mix it with a little water and pour it onto the terminal. The corrosion disappears and the terminal is clean as a whistle. Rinse with clean water when you're finished...

Had an Odyssey battery in my Mustang. I was very happy with it. AGM batteries are great.

I replaced mine last year with a Toyota battery. Part numbers are different from Lexus part numbers though and price was much better. I don't have a local Lexus dealer so they gave me the Toyota part number I needed to buy locally.

Hey I finally had the battery replaced. They said the old one still had plenty cranking juice but at five years old, I told them to replace. Maybe in another five years, I'll step up to an EV!!

So the problem with AGM batteries is that they require a higher voltage from the alternator to charge correctly. I believe its something like 14.5v, but dont quote me on that. If I remember correctly, any car newer than 2012 or something around there will charge at 14.4 volts until the engine gets to normal operating temperature, then drop down to somewhere around 13.5-13.8. I had to have my Tacoma with dual AGM Odyssey batteries reprogrammed to bump the voltage up and have a continuous charge rate of 14.5v. Im not 100 percent sure if the Lexus alternators do the same thing. I would assume mine does since its a 2021. This is something you might want to research before spending the money on the Odyssey battery. They are kind of expensive. I am currently looking for a battery/alternator solution for my ES350

The one they just installed in my car is a Champion. Same installed in my wife's RX a few years ago with no issues. 30 month full replacement warranty I believe.

This string of battery charging/replacement recommendations is a great example of why Forum is so amazing — tons of knowledge & experience out there and enthusiasts willing to take the time to share it. Thank you! My philosophy is to replace a battery when it becomes 3 years old, even if it still tests “good.” (AAA would come to my rescue if stranded, but would involve more than an hour of waiting, and no telling where I might be when breakdown occurs.)
