2020 ES350 with 60 k miles on it, drive it everyday though no longer commute to work. However, twice in the last 6 months I've had to call for a jumpstart. Car is less than 3 years old, never had a vehicle in the past with battery failure. Car was shut down previous night effectively. Nothing left on. Did not sit for a long time. Anything systemic with vehicle or is it just time for a new battery? Should I take it in where they'll likely come back with the "can't find anything wrong."

Any advice appreciated.

Unfortunately since you have 60K miles on the vehicle, you're out of warranty coverage so whatever the fix is will be on your dime.

Batteries do degrade over time. On my 2019 ES350 Ultra Luxury during COVID it set for multiple months and still started with no issues; however, after the battery was approximately 3.5 years old (based on date on car manufacture) the car wouldn't start after setting in my garage less than 2 weeks. Under warranty, my Lexus dealer ran several diagnostic tests over a couple of days and the battery tested good. (The service advisor had the service technician show me the diagnostic tester printout show the test results.) I started keeping the battery on a battery tender to keep it at peak charge but 4 months later the battery had deteriorated to the point where it wouldn't start the car (just got a clattering starter solenoid) after driving to and stopping in a shopping center parking lot. (The Lexus dealer then replaced the battery under warranty.)

 

Batteries can last 2-3 years and on up to 6 and 7 years. My '66 Corvette lasted 9 years but had no electronics in that generation Corvette. After 3 years I'd just go for a new one...

 

I think you have a DCM issue. It should be reprogrammed.

 

A little over a year ago I began to notice the battery in my 2019 seemed a bit sluggish - starting, seat movement; but never needed a jump. I checked under the hood and noticed corrosion had formed on the negative terminal. I took it to the dealer and they said the battery was bad. Good news was he said the battery was still inside the 4 year warranty so it was replaced for free, They also replaced the negative battery cable under warranty - said the corrosion was due to the bad battery. You might want to check with the dealer!

The service manager told me that the new battery they installed only has a 2 year warranty, he said if I wanted a better one I’d have to pay for it and he said it would be $400+. Interestingly the new battery they installed in my car has a sticker right on the top that says it has an 84 month warranty…

 

Corrosion is pretty normal after several years especially when the battery is under the hood.. Mine is now going on five years old and I notice it but I'm about to replace the battery just as a preventive measure. No signs yet the battery is weak.

 

Both times are correct. 2 years for full replacement then prorated for the last 5 years of the total 7 years of warranty coverage.
