Yeah no way it should be peeling like that.

Dear daughter has an NX with Nuluxe upholstery. If I could have had that in my Ultra Lux ES I would have selected it. I think it not only looks great but shows virtually no wear. Who cares about leather smell? The boss has a 2014 Honda that she won't part with and the cheap leather heated seats still look great. No rips, abrasions, tears, or anything else. The OP seat photos look like they were abused IMO.

Actually, it is kinda subjective. Compare another leather item: bomber jackets. If you see an old leather bomber jacket, it looks like worn-out and discolored leather. If you see an old example made out of cheap PVC, it might have looked the same as the leather one when new, but its wear is of a different sort: peeling off fabric backing and shedding pieces of its exterior. Both look worn. Only one looks genuine, because it is.

if it has been maintained well over the years old leather can have a great patina and overall appearance.

The difference is the Nuluxe at least from my experience over four years of ownership shows basically ZERO wear. The leather seats not the case. And I maintain her car the same way I do mine. But good discussion here.
