The Lexus IS (before its larger refresh in 2021) did see incremental updates throughout the years, even after it's mid cycle refresh. So it's not out of the question for Lexus to continue to update stuff on an odd year after a mid cycle update.
As for CD players, I appreciate the quality but I think that benefit far outweighs the convenience spotify or similar provides. besides if you want quality, a car is the worst place to experience it in. just go home and use headphones. i'm all for taking out the CD player. i'll toss that large heavy contraption off a cliff. they take up a TON of space too. I never touched my CD player in any of the past three Lexuses I had.
On my 2007 5ES I used the CD player all the time, but now on 7ES there’s a lot of options: USB, Spotify, Apple Music…
I'm either eclectic or just greedy. So far I'm using the sat radio, the phone via Bluetooth, the CD player, and a USB jump drive (with a shoutout to the poster who gave that awesome primer on how to get the tracks numbered in order).

The second day I had my 2019 Lux. I used the DVD player to watch 5 minutes of a George Carlin comedy skit. When I sold it early this year before taking my 22' UL, I was double checking the car for any overlooked items...low and behold, I had forgotten to take the DVD out of drive! That's the extent of my usage.
Given that the ES just received midcycle refresh, and that the new Lexus software on NX is a major ground up overhaul which would require different hardware, I’m pretty confident nothing will change for 2023 ES
You may be right, BUT manufacturers are under lots of pressure and competition to up tech at every turn. The automotive press constantly rags on Toyota and Lexus for being too far behind in this regard. Lexus did finally install touchscreens on the ES (and LS) after lots of complaints. So, if removing the touchpad - which really shouldn’t be needed with the touchscreen- gives them a chance to attract younger or more tech savvy buyers or at least positive press coverage, I could readily see them doing it rather than waiting for the full redo in 2025 or 26.

Lexus vehicles with GEN7, GEN8, and GEN9 navigation systems do have the ability to play DVD movies while the vehicle is in the stationary mode. For your safety, DVD's cannot be viewed while the vehicle is in motion.

Here is the PDF you can use to see what your Lexus has. Dynamic Navigation systems for 2019 and higher includes this functionality. This was the only literature I could find for older models.

Ok cool, so your 2019 ES Lux can play the DVD while in Park, do you just put the DVD to the CD player slot or where do you put the DVD into? I want to try on mine ES too, thanks LOL
Edit: I found this video, ES should be the same. I'll find or burn a DVD this weekend and test to see if it works on Park, lol
I'm trying to figure out how to mirror my phone youtube video to the 12" screen, I'm looking for a good adapter that can do that. P/S: my eyes won't never leave the road, it's just sometimes I may look at the screen to see what they are talking about (it's the same as you look at the navigation), safety first

One solution I've seen advertised is the MMB Multimedia Box. There are various purchasing avenues so do a google (or your preferred search engine) search on that product title to find links to descriptions and sellers. In a nutshell it is an Android OS box that hijacks the Apple CarPlay H.264 video link to play videos on the display screen amongst other capabilities.

I don’t think the police or courts will buy the “my eyes won’t never leave the road”, as in most states it’s illegal simply to be in the driver’s view whether you disregard or just peek. But whatever.
I have a hard time believing they'd do that major of a change right after a midcycle and with 8th gen on the horizon. Then again, they could get at least 3-4 years out of reusing the same parts if they do but why not just ride out the existing layout? Of course Im biased as I just got the 2022 and would be majorly bummed these major changes happened the year after haha
Count me into the don't get rid of the clock club, it adds a classy touch IMO
Just buy another ES350 after when the major changes occur. That’s what I would do.
