My car is not well situated for good interior shots, but if you check out Savageese's YouTube video "Take It to the Grave," mine looks exactly like that one except for the flies.

Statistically you'll likely be fine but check with your insurance carrier on your glass coverage just in case.

I read something like this and it causes enough concern that I will never own a car with a pano again. I owned a 2014 Hyundai with one - never had a problem but I knew the risk was there. My shade was closed most of the time anyway.

It is not as big an issue as you're making it seem. It's extremely rare for a modern pano roof to explode. It's not impossible, but not likely.

The panoramic sunroof is the one option I most wish I didn't get. The added weight (probably 150 to 200 pounds) makes the car much less agile (worsens handling), not to mention slower acceleration, worse gas mileage, longer brake distances and worse overall stability. I notice the difference when I get a loaner.

I don't like any sort of sunroof/moonroof/pano etc. It is just one more thing to cause trouble, and my wife or I never use them. Light is right, and KISS (keep it simple stupid) sum up my feelings!

I am glad my ES300h has the regular moon roof. I don't like how the panoramic roof opens up on the ES. Over 99% of the time I don't use it anyway in ES. I have a Miata for the top down experience and I drive it top down 99% of the time.

I absolutely love the look of the pano. Great choice in getting a vehicle with that has the pano as an option. On another note, I rarely use moon roofs but I will always purchase a vehicle with one. LOL!

I guess you missed the part where I said "statistically you'll be fine". But don't kid yourself it happens more often then you might believe.

pano roof comes with its set cons besides what David Z already mentioned. If you live in a hail prone area or visiting that territory it is something to consider. If you do a lot of high way drivings there is always the chance a flying rock is going to take it out at the most inopportune time. Like having a moon roof you also have to clean the drainage holes occasionally as the car age if you don't want to water getting into the car. Should you park underneath trees regularly you have to perform that maintenance more often.

I agree with you and tried strenuously to avoid it, but simply could not. It was a take-it-or-leave-it situation.

1 in 1,000 is the same statistically as 1,000 in 1,000,000. So, yes, 1,000 > 1.

All tempered glass has the possibility to be defective and self destruct. My sister had a minivan several years ago where the rear side window did that 2x over the 5 years she owned it. Also, more regular sunroofs explode than pano's, due to their being more of them out there

.

My situation was essentially the same. Back in Aug 2019, I wanted the ML system and didn't want to wait for a special order. The only option on the dealer lots were Luxury's, which all came with the pano roof. There weren't any ULs in my area, but they would have all come with pano roofs, too. I think the pano roof is pretty much part of the Lux or UL package unless you special order.

Does that apply to ES300h as well? My ES300h Luxury comes with a regular moon roof.
