Progress with Android Auto function on '22 ES350 FSport
Last week posted regarding AA not being stable on our new ES FSport. AA would load and function and then crash. Once it crashed it would no longer reload and run properly, it would keep crashing.
I spent about 2 hours on the phone with Lexus Telematics trying to troubleshoot the issue while driving from Charleston to Boca. The final direction appeared to be to replace the head unit.
One of the responses (thank you BEN737) to my post, and some further research got me thinking and going in another direction.
I had 2 AA apps on my phone - AA and AA for cell phones, the phone app being the most recent.
I thought perhaps the apps had become corrupted and I deleted the 2 apps.
For the hell of it, I plugged the phone back in and AA came up without the apps!
With a little research and the help of my techie software engineer son, I discovered that Google was now incorporating AA into the Android OS. My guess here is that I had encountered a conflict between the 3 versions of AA despite them appearing to have the same version.
I have not done enough mileage to be certain but AA has been stable since I deleted the apps and the mic icon on the AA screen now function for the phone.
I hope this can help someone else

...
I would have thought a fairly current version of the Android Auto app would automatically check the Android operating system (OS) version then depending upon the version notify the user the app wasn't required/useable on the running OS version and once the user acknowledges that automatically quit the app to prevent troubles with incompatibility issues. I don't have a clue as to why Google's Android Auto app software developers didn't incorporate that in the app but it looks like they didn't do that minimal version check to help prevent this sort of incompatibility troubles.
Lexus telematics also made no mention of the app not being needed, they of all people should have known.
The last notice I got was to download the "AA for cell phone" app a couple of months back, no mention was made of AA now being part of the OS and that the app could be deleted.
I now had to reactivate AA on my Miata because the app had been deleted on my phone.
All is still looking good.
