Cover art not available while driving??
Important to me, yes! Wouldn't have purchased the vehicle if I had known. Looking at a graphic displaying a logo of a CD. Now, that's exciting. NOT!!!!!
Put it in PARK. 🤣
That's what it takes on my 2021 RX so they must have updated that at some point since the 2017 model year. Frankly, I wouldn't spend any time looking at the cover art while the car is in motion anyway as I would most likely be driving, so it would just be a distraction for me. Everybody is likely to have a different take on this particular decision but I can see where the car company is going to come down on the side of minimizing distractions. Chances are good someone got in a wreck gawking at the cover art and sued them. When I was in a business law class in the late 80's, liability insurance was the single most expensive component that went into the construction of a new car. I wouldn't doubt if that is still the case. So the lawyers are naturally going to do everything they can to keep their insurance premiums down and protect the company.

When I bought my 2019 UL 350, on a scale of 1 - 5 entertainment was at 5... I bought a Lexus for performance, looks, reliability, and a little deserved luxury in my old age... Honestly I didn't even know what "cover art" was. In any case it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me... And now I also eliminate any distractions that I can to be a safe driver.
Since I use CarPlay almost 100% of the time, it doesn't bother me. But if didn't use CarPlay, it would definitely put a damper on my driving experience. The CarPlay music display is awesome including a nice big shot of the album art, which is visible all the time. But you can't search for individual tracks while driving. That's a reasonable place to draw the line. Suppressing album art while driving is needlessly prohibitive.
Every time I started up my 2004 ES, I would have to click OK on the navigation screen. That was annoying, too. My 2019 ES shows you the warning screen, but automatically closes it within a second or 2. Apparently, Lexus realized that making the driver click OK each time was unnecessarily cautious. Maybe they'll come to the same conclusion about album art in a decade or so.

I also use Apple Carplay almost always (on 2021 ES300h). I suppose Apple Carplay are the same across the board for Lexus. I can actually jump to a specific song (or artist, album playlist, genre) using SIRI while driving. Say "hey Siri", wait for response and issue command like "Play SONG <title> ", or for artist; "Play ARTIST <artist name>" etc. Note that you can only use the SIRI voice command if you have SIRI set to ON and WiFi or Cell Data turned ON. It can dial phone numbers, send/reply Text message and more (check weather, traffic, etc). You can also use Amazon Alexa. But you must disconnect CarPlay (pull out the USB connetion from iPhone). Requires Amazon Prime account. You can command (example), "Alexa, play song <song title>". NOTE; All these stuffs are patched through iPhone. CARPLAY is through USB cable, AMAZON ALEXA is through Bluetooth.
