I have no idea, though, whether that applies just to the 2021 (and, perhaps, 2020) model year cars or whether it also includes cars from earlier model years. I know that the key fob still doesn't work to start my 2017 ES without a subscription.
The fob doesn't even work WITH a sub on our 2017 RX.

I read the same thing, but have not heard if that is opinion, hope or verified fact.

I've seen a few posts either here or on a Toyota forum where it was confirmed albeit only a few months after the sub was expired.

On my 21, a 3 year trial of the remote start and other access features was given so pretty much the duration of my lease.

Also FWIW I programmed to open all windows and moon roof with my key fob just like my good old bmw days from 2002! works nicely. maybe i'll post a short vid.gif.

I also programmed to CLOSE all windows and moon roof using the exterior door lock.. except the ES (not that I know of) does NOT have any place to stick a key.

If only you could close using the key fob buttons... its obviously possible.. just probably a dumb reg.

There should be a key slot that is concealed in the handle for the front driver's side door.

I think you can only see it if you pull the handle out. Check the manual.

It is concealed under the lower rear corner portion of the driver's door handle. You have to pull out the door handle to access it.

Since your ES is the Nightfall Mica color like mine is, you may need a light to shine on that area to readily see it the first time. Just the key slot itself is silver colored and it surrounded by a [US] nickel coin sized black colored mounting cover which blends right into the really dark blue of the Nightfall Mica. Close to, if not completely, invisible in suboptimal lighting conditions.

Another tidbit posted a few years ago is that there's also a keyhole in the trunk lid under the ledge. Most don't know it's there...

As I said in my post, it is concealed. As the others have said, you need to pull out the door handle to reveal it.

This is explained on page 387 of the 2021 ES manual. (For other model years, the page may be slightly different.)

From the manual:

"Pull the driver’s door handle and
insert the mechanical key.
2 Unlock the door.
3 Remove the key, return the handle,
and then pull the handle again."
