I went into the left-side menu and made sure "Compass" was enabled in the list of things the HUD is supposed to be showing me. Yet it's not.
I wonder if, like audio, it only shows at given moments when I'm not looking? Anybody have any wisdom to offer on this? Thanks in advance for your help.
If I had to guess, the ES's HUD is the widest in its class, but it is not infinitely large. Both displays take up plenty of width, and they may have simply only had room to show one of them at a time. Since you could say they're redundant in the most general way in that both give you directions, they made 'em an either/or.
Thank you! This was the answer. As soon as I shut off the lane centering graphic, the compass graphic became visible.
To expand upon landonm86’s answer, if you check the Heads Up illustration in the Owner’s Manual you’ll find the Compass and Driving System Support information is displayed in the same HUD display area. Although the manual doesn’t state it, if you have the MID’s HUD Driving System Support options turned on and are using one of the systems (DRCC, Navigation, LTA) that displays information on the HUD, the Driving System Support information display will override HUD display of the Compass even when the MID HUD Compass display option is turned on.
