Bought the Ottocast wire U2air back in late '22. No issues with it auto booting, speed of boot, lag, or sound quality with it. Converted my '22 ES from wired to wireless carplay for $68.00 (device from Amazon) and $8.00 for flat cord from Aliexpress so I could close the lid over the rig once installed.
because I originally had an android. A bit wonky to convert it to AA but a lot smoother for Carplay. Load up is about 20-35 seconds and there's about a full second delay when you switch songs or when you play a video from your phone. Other than that, it has only crashed a total of maybe 5 times? where I had to unplug and plug back in. Sound quality sounds normal and navigating through the screen is pretty fluid.
The only issue I have is when my wife decided to also connect to it when we are both in the car with our phone is can start acting funky like it doesn't know who to connect to. However when I'm alone or before she got connected to it no issues at all. Takes maybe 30 sec or less to boot up once I start the car. I would say just buy whicher you want on Amazon and try it. Luckily Amazon returns are very easy.
The carplay in my 2024 ES350 is wireless. I have a friend with a 2020, and hers is wired. I think the 23 and 24 models are wireless, but it might be only the 24s.
The 2023 ES is wireless as well. It used to work flawlessly but with the latest 18.5 iOS, the carplay keeps getting disconnected and I don't think Lexus is interested in a software update. I asked the dealer to check if there is an update and he said that there is none. If there is another adapter that is stable, I wouldn't mind trying it out. However I do have to say that the carplay connect is very fast on the 2023 ES.
Do you ever get updates?
Also what does it really "update"?
My Android auto still has issues with screen freezing randomly for less than a second. Happens at least once or twice a day.
Lexus if they really wanted to could fix that but I haven't got any software updates.

I got one of those flat dongles recommended by someone here. It works flawlessly. To be honest, it works too well. I don't need my phone constantly connected. I have to turn off blue tooth often. I have never had an issue except when I am in an underground garage. It has trouble connecting right away to the maps. Understanably.
