All buttons and switches should be brought to the center console and not tucked behind the gear shift or under the dash. a nice touch screen center console for all controls wo

My brother had an old border patrol 1961 Plymouth with a bored and stroked 383 and beefed up tranny. I still remember trying to hit those buttons with pedal to the metal. Very hard to do!

In the video she says 'leaving the carwash going from neutral to drive just press the brake then move to drive. when i leave the carwash I'm rolling I just move to drive. Hope that is a mistake

Do not want buttons or for that matter the paddle-shifters on the steering wheel.

In your opinion it's useless. The space saving is blown way out of proportion as well. A lever doesn't take much space lol. Also, I don't think having an "old fashioned" gear lever prevents me from "upgrading to the 22 century."

The best layout is a combination of buttons, dials, and a screen. Note how I didn't say touch, but just a screen. Frequently used controls for HVAC, heated seats, audio, etc for buttons/dials and those that get changed every once in a while can be buried in some screen.

I don't think that is strictly a requirement. The electronic gear shift shifter instructions from the current RX350 Owner's Manual:

Operate the shift lever gently and securely in the direction of the arrow on the shift position indicator.

To shift to N, slide the shift lever in the direction of the arrow and hold it.

Release the shift lever after each shifting operation to allow it to return to its regular position (⚫️).

Shifting to M is only possible when the shift position is in D.

When shifting from P to N, D or R, from N, D,M or R to P, from D or M to R, or from R to D, ensure that the brake pedal is being depressed and the vehicle is stationary.

Notice there's no "when shifting from N to R or D" specific instruction or operation restriction.

I haven't had any experience with the new electronic gear shift shifter so I don't really know if the shifter operates in practice as the manual's instructions imply. Since shifting is done through software control, it would be easy to impose a "brakes engaged" for none, some, or all shifter gear changing operations. The only way to really know is operating a real article to see what operations are allowed in practice.

Back in the mid 1980s, I had a 1962 Chrysler Newport that had a pushbutton transmission. The car had no Park button, only Neutral, Reverse, 1,2 and 3. You had to set the parking brake every time you got out.
