High miles 2013 ES350 - should I buy?
Hey y'all. Help me here. I found a gorgeous 2013 ES350 Red with every bell and whistle. It is extremely clean and I can get it for around $17k plus I can get a good deal on my trade. BUT, it has 102k miles on it. The car looks like it was well cared for (I got to look at it and drive before the dealer sent it to detail). It drove very well and all accessories work.
Would anyone have any reservations buying an ES350 with those kind of miles? I assume since it is a 2013 with high miles that they are mostly highway miles.
Thoughts?
Thanks for the help!

It looks to be $1500- $2000 overpriced according to Edmunds. That said, if it was one-owner with complete records and got a mechanic's go-ahead, I would buy it for $15k.

I would check to see what maintenance has been done on the car. When you start to get past about 90,000 miles, some of the bigger recommended maintenance items start to kick in. So I would want to check to see when was, for example, the last time that the brake fluid was changed and if the coolant has been been flushed and replaced. By 100,000 miles, the car should have had at least 2 tire replacements and at least one brake pad replacement. So, I would check to see how much tread is left on the tires and how much of the brake pads are left.
Depending on whether all of the recommended maintenance has been done and on the condition of things like the tires and brakes, a good price for the car could vary by $1500 to $2000.

There are three versions of the 2013 ES: Premium, Luxury, and Ultra Luxury. If you say, "every bell and whistle", that needs more definition. That said, I got a new 2014 ES 350 UL (Ultra Lux) with literally every bell and whistle (for a chunk of change, mind you!) The ES's hold up very well. As lesz said, if it appears to be in good shape, one owner, etc., I think it is a good deal and you should easily get another 100K miles out of it, if not more. I think the price is cheap--my opinion--but then, I'm bummed at depreciation even though I know it happens (I have 53K miles on my 2014)...but I enjoy the ES very much.
Good luck!

Good luck with your purchase if you go ahead with it.

The most obvious "tells" that it is an UL ES are the panoramic sunroof, the thigh extender on the driver's seat, the memory buttons for the front passenger seat, and the sun shades for the back doors. Those are 4 of the features that are easy to see and that are only available with the UL packages.

Register free on Lexus.com/owners. Add the vin # under service records and it will show every record done at a Lexus or Toyota dealership. If all the service has been done on time, nothing shows up out of the ordinary and you can have a mechanic look it over especially to see if it has been in a wreck. If these all checkout and cosmetically it looks good than a good buy. The ES is rated the most reliable car in the mid size premium class by J D Power. The main service should have been an oil change every 10,000 miles, brake fluid change every 30,000 and the coolant changed at 100,000.

It sounds a little overpriced to me, but it depends on how it was equipped.
Also, a red Lexus may be harder to move and you can probably use that to your advantage. Everyone likes different colors, but I know for a lot of people red would be a deal breaker. Some of the more neutral colors probably are an easier sell.
But I certainly know if it was me, I would gladly pay another couple thousand extra dollars to have half those miles on a different car. At least in my area, 2013 with like 60k miles are asking around $18k.
I purchased my 2014 with 44k miles for around $20k and change. It had some premium options, but not all of them.
I don't think the car though is going to be a service nightmare because of the mileage.
