Cool Lexus will continue to charge for RS

Found an article that addresses the fact that Lexus charges for the remote start feature by key fob and will continue to do so regardless of customer complaints. After one year the feature is remotely disabled by Lexus unless you pay a monthly fee of $8.00 or a yearly fee of $80.00. This is even though the remote start comes with the car in the first place. The article also states that BMW intends to charge for use of Apple Play. They get you coming and going... POOR!

That is ridiculous, Lexus should realize whatever few dollars they make off this program is lost away in good will from customers.

I call this type of deal the “drug dealer special”! They give it to you for free to get you hooked and then start charging!!

I can see charging for the smartphone connection because of the internet being required. But to deny RS from the key fob when its already installed is an underhanded act by Lexus. It costs them nothing to permit RS action with one's key. I'm hoping that one of the smart computer people on this forum can figure out a hack to restore at least the key RS process after Lexus disables it...

Toyota/Lexus is no different than any of the other vehicle manufacturers. They squeeze the consumer any way they can for money.

I would never paid for the Lexus Enform RS. My new ES350 have a Viper Remote Start and Alarm System installed for $600 and the remote range is crazy long and response time is much faster.

This is the way to go IMO but I've seen RS systems installed with smartphone access for a lot less than $600.00 although there is a monthly fee... Key fob is free after the installation charge.

yep I also considered the Viper smartstart but the viper authorized dealer wanted an additional $300 for that phone module installed, plus viper charges another $70 subscription fee per year. For my type of usuage, which is mostly starting the car from home or office, I don’t really need or want to pay for the phone feature.
