Default Sun Roof Noise

Curious if anybody else experiences wind noise coming from their sunroof? It is not that noticable but I realized how loud it was after I closed the sunroof sun shield cover one day. I do not recall having that on my 2004 ES 300. Just curious.

Yes, I noticed the same with my wife's 2014 ES. I'm more sensitive to wind/road noise and pointed this out to her by closing the sun shield as you did for her to notice the difference. Granted this is at or close-to highway speeds. I sorta shot myself in the foot, now that she's "aware", in having to do something about it. So, I'm going install a wind deflector to see if that should make a difference.

I have a 2013 and it's my opinion that the car has excessive wind noise in addition to the sun roof. IDK if this has been corrected in the later years, but this was a complaint early on with the new generation ES350.
Sometimes so noisy that I have to look to see if the roof is opened a little.

I don't notice wind noise per se, but the cabin has better sound insulation with the sunroof shield closed. Even sitting at a set of traffic lights with a heavy duty transport truck behind you--listen to that vehicle with your sunroof shield open, then closed. So much more serene with it closed

Frankly, I could do without sunroofs completely and it still kind of bugs met that they have more or less made them standard these day.

They include them with virtually all cars and you get one - wanted or not - as an option at considerable expense. I haven't opened mine since I got the car in September of 2012... Hope it still works...

I only open my sunroof when I'm letting out the hot air, then I usually drive with it closed and blocking sun. I don't notice the noise from the sun roof, but I do think that when I don't close my car door hard enough I get wind noise from the door. Mine is a 13 ES.

On another note, I had a '00 ML320, and that sucker made noise if you drove with the sun roof open at speeds above 25mph. Bad design on that model year. We also have an '86 300 turbo diesel, and that was quiet at all speeds. Though 80mph was it's top speed. lol

I have a 2013 ES and I have not noticed any "wind noise" at all in my car. Only time I even use it is in the spring or fall. Now I did have an issue with the moon roof on my 2007 Avalon.. and it only happened when the outside temp. was in the mid 40's or cooler.. wasn't a wind noise... it was a "knocking" sound.. it sounded as if it were coming from the dash on the passengers side.. never could locate it til one night I googled it and there was a thread with people saying if you heard a knocking or tapping sound in your dash it was actually the moon roof.. next time I was out in the car and I heard the noise, I put my hand on the moon roof glass and put just a bit of pressure against it... the noise stopped... let go of it, noise started again... took it to the dealership and they were going to rip the headliner out in order to do whatever it is they needed to do... but I had discovered it was a "expansion / contraction thing with some of the metal parts in the moon roof. I found out that all I had to do was turn the heater on in the car.. as soon as the interior of the car warmed up, the tapping sound stopped. since it only happened in cool weather when I would be running the heater anyway, I did not have Toyota tear out the head liner and work on it. Just lived with it.. especially since I live in Louisiana and we don't have many "cold" nights.

Default Wind Noise or Rattle?

My 2013 ES 350 developed a rattle. I looked everywhere and tried everything but the rattle was still there. Brought the car in to my service advisor and they discovered that that the sun roof had gone of its track!! Gave me a loaner, ordered a new sun roof assembly, installed it and the rattle was totally gone!! All under warranty.
