sunroof wind noise normal?
I've never owned a car with a sunroof before so i have no comparison point
when i slide back the inner cover to expose the glass with the roof completely closed the wind noise is very high
is this normal and if not what is the culprit?
thanks

I own both an ES350 and an IS250 and I have noticed the same thing. I have driven a 2018 RX350 loaner and it had it too. I believe this is normal...

Every car I've ever owned (beyond 1989) had a sun roof, including a Mazda and 4 toyotas, (2 of them were trucks). I've never noticed any wind noise from the sunroof, including my current 2010 ES 350. Then again, maybe there was noise but not enough to even grab my attention. Possibly what you term "very high" may be considered normal for other people, and with all the problems I'm reading about wind noise, I'm wondering if we're all expecting too much from this car model/brand. The car is so quiet that we expect to hear "nothing". Right now I'm "thinking" I hear wind noise coming from the passenger side of the car. I'm really not even sure there is any as I have to strain my ears to even hear it. The problem is that it's begiining to bug me and if it's my imagination, that's really going to **** me off!

I would think that if you're hearing wind noise, the seal isn't doing it's job very well. From some other threads (different models), I've read that Lexus doesn't replace just the seal, they have to replace the whole sunroof. Then again, I've also read Lexus can replace just the seal, so all of it is confusing! Is the sunroof fully closed? I know that sounds like a stupid question, but perhaps it "looks" fully closed, but it's not. You could try the sunroof initialization procedure to see if it helps. The pdf was posted in another thread by forum member "nevernu" so thanks goes to him.

I haven't noticed any significant noise from my roof but I usually keep the slider cover closed. Also I do open it when I run the car through the touchless car wash just to see if there is any leaks. I would suggest you cut some strips of tissue paper and tape it to the roof and drive it . See if you get any movement and if so how much. Go from there based on what you see.

Tape it on the front inside of the sun roof. A narrow strip about 8" long. Tape several of them in different locations. Drive the car at the speeds you hear the noise and see if they are blowing around.

Go get a can of spray Silicone, and a rag. Open the sunroof up completely (if you have the option) to where the glass slides underneath the roof. Spray the silicon along the seal and wipe it clean. Do it again and let the silicone 'absorb', about 10 min, then wipe it down again. Then open and close the window two or three times and test drive it to see if any difference. Sometimes the seals need a little TLC.

Or try a temporary tape test, seal all the way around the sunroof on the outside with
a gentle tape such as painter's masking tape. Avoid a strong tape such as Duct tape!
Now drive and compare. If somewhat quieter then you seem to have an wind leak and
go ahead with Cjet's suggestion above.
