Default Updating 2014 navigation system

2014 UL with HDD navigation here. Is there a way for me to update the navigation system? The screen says to insert a DVD or USB. I believe I was told the HDD version is the better one to have?

I had the dealer update the maps on my 2015 nav. As I recall, it was something like $350 including the minimum one hour of labor. I hear rumors of people finding some way of updating their own but I am not sure which years that applies to - or how widely available it is. Bottom line: I recommend just letting the dealer handle it.

There is a fair bit of discussion about this in various threads. I would run a search and you will find a great deal of information.

should be able to buy these anywhere from $160~$200. very easy install, please don't go to the dealer for this.

EDIT: please keep in mind the instructions above is for 2015 ES, 2014 might have different version nav unit, please research that first before buying a nav upgrade.

For the Generation 8 navigation system (2015 and 2016 ES) and the Generation 9 system (2017 and 2018 ES), the map data is stored on an SD card, but for the Generation 7 system (2013 and 2014 ES), the map data is stored on a hard drive, and I'm not sure whether the hard drive can be updated other than by the dealer.

You may want to try searching on eBay. A friend of mine recently got map updates from this seller: ebay.com/usr/mapcarua

He seems to be happy with the purchase.
