Default Scratch repair ?

does anyone have info they could give me about proper way to use rubbing compound ?
i got a scratch on my door and its not cut into the paint but its a black mark so whatever it was that jumped on the road to hit the door has it to where it looks like its just touching the clear coat i guess but its not broken through the paint
is this what i would need ot use rubbing compound to get out ?
and if i where going to do with by hand what compound would be good mguiars ? can someone just give me a quick how to on proper way to do this
to rub the scratch out and am i then going to have to buff and wax that part so that the paint doenst look dull after rubing it out ?
or is rubbing compound only going to work if the scratch was deep enough to be able to spread it out ? im confused on this
thank you

First, I would definitely not recommend trying to use rubbing compound. The clear coat layer on Lexus vehicles is fairly delicate, and, if you use rubbing compound, which is fairly abrasive, there is a good chance that you will easily burn through the clear coat, and, if you burn through the clear coat, the only possible repair will be to refinish the entire panel.

My suggestion for a first try would be to use Maguiar's Scratch X. it is a very mild abrasive, and it would be pretty hard for you to make things worse by using it. Since it is so mildly abrasive, there is a good chance that it will not remove the scratch.

If the Scratch X doesn't work, I would try 3M Hand Glaze. It is still a mildly abrasive product, but it is a bit more abrasive than the Scratch X. If that doesn't work, I'd try 3M Machine Glaze. It is a bit more abrasive than the Hand Glaze but still safe to use. If you use the Machine Glaze, you would then want to finish the job with the Hand Glaze, which will bring back the original shine. The 3M Hand Glaze and Machine Glaze are available at retailers that sell automotive paint supplies. They are fairly expensive, but a bottle of each will last you for many years. I'm sure that they are both also available on line.

If none of those things work, a bit of wet sanding with automotive grade sand paper might work, but I definitely would not recommend that you try doing that yourself because, when done by someone without experience, it would be very easy to burn through the clear coat very quickly. I would only recommend having a body shop technician do wet sanding.

A body shop technician should be able to tell you very quickly whether the scratch can, in fact, be removed and what method and products should work. If it can be removed, a body shop should be able to remove it in just a few minutes, and the cost should be minimal. So, getting the opinion of a body shop technician might actually make sense to be the first thing that you try before trying any of the products that I mentioned above.

I have had good luck using a hand wax applicator or even a paper towel, plus NuFinish car polish or NuFinish scratch doctor to remove scuffs in paint. About all that is needed is some elbow grease and some patience.

It is hard to tell accurately from pictures, but, from what I'm seeing, that doesn't look like something that is going to be able to be polished out.

Your best course of action would be, I think, to take the car to a body shop and get their opinion. They will be able quickly to tell how deep the scratch is, whether it can be polished out, and whether the sheet metal is actually dented/creased, in which case, more extensive body work would be needed.

i am going to have a paintless dent repair for that crease thats something that can be done for that
but id like to get the scratch out first
its not deep at all it does not go into the paint at all
its all over on top of the clear coat
because i can run my fingernail over the entire blemish and scratch and it does not cut into it anywhere at all
so the entire scratch if on top of the paint and clear coat

and paintless dent repair guy already told me that he can remove the dent/crease
just he doenst do anything with the scratch

I have some Toyoguard liquid polish left over from my Camry days. That's a mild polish but it is very effective at removing rubbed places or even places where somebody traded paint with you.

Try some toothpaste ( the White kind) on a microfibre cloth.
