Default ES features you did not know about.

I doubt there are many people who read through their full 1000+ page owner's manual for their ES. I know I didn't - and I used to read read those completely in the past. So now I keep finding need "easter eggs" about the car even after two years of ownership.

There are a few thing that took me some time to find out:

1. Removing the wiper blades requires placing the wiper arms into a slightly rotated position first with some force - after that the arms can be lifted just like any other car. Normally the arms are tucked under the hood to improve aerodynamics.

2. There is a sleep mode on a remote that will prevent it from using the battery (helps if you are only using one key - so place the second into sleep mode). Just press the unlock key twice while holding the lock key (the led will flash 4 times to confirm).

3. The rearview mirror has two joints and can be adjusted both in position (e.g. up or down) and angle.

4. The is an option to add a custom image to the NAV to show up for a second at every power up.

5. There is a Carista app that lets you customize a bunch of options without going to a dealer.

Do you know of any more hidden features like these?

The "Up" position is "Winter" mode. It prevents the wipers from getting stuck when snow builds up.

I can't think of really anything I've discovered that I wasn't already aware of when I purchased it.

Didn't know about the smartkey sleep mode. A good tip as I use only one key...

Just an FYI on the theme of fob batteries. My wife just visited our Lexus dealer and had the batteries replaced in both of our fobs, $9.00 total including tip.
Wow, didn't see that one coming...

Another feature that hardly anyone knows about is the keyhole under your trunk lid - used to open the trunk in case the batteries go south.

Yes, you can use the key, the flat end, to open the fob, it is a button battery. I have replaced mine myself.

My dealer actually replaces the smartkey batteries for free but you have to go to the dealer. I just go to Walmart and do it myself...

For $3 I can buy 10 of them on ebay. No time wasted visiting walmart or a dealer, no brain memory cells wasted trying to remember to buy batteries.

Isn't ironic that we are discussing how to save pennies on a Lexus forum?
