Washed my car last week and noticed my first ding on the passenger side door

I have to park the car in closely spaced lots these days so need a good, tasteful, oem looking side strip.

Any recommendations and can a dealer source it and install it?

Yes, they can install the actual OEM guard. Mine came with it and it looks and works good.

 

also call your dealer and ask them for the contact info of their independent ding guy. call him direct. he might be able to fix the ding for under $100. some of those ding guys can work absolute magic. check yelp too. good luck!

 

I've built up a relationship over 20+ years with a guy who does PDR work for many of the dealerships in the area. If I need work done, I call him directly to find out at which dealerships he will be working in the next week and when he will be there. Then, I meet him at one of the dealerships. He has removed dents for me for as little as $15 or $20, and about the most he has ever charged me is $40 to remove multiple dents. Both he and I are happy to be able to leave out the middleman/dealer.

I've also built up a similar relationship with a guy who does interior repairs.

 

I ordered body side moulding and installed it myself... but dealer can do it too..

 

I had mine added after purchase for $182 + taxes by the Lexus dealer during other service. Think $47 labor and $135 parts. Was going to do it myself but for that price it wasn't worth me messing with it. Also, as previously mentioned, the dent guys can do a pretty slick job. I had one removed on an older car and I knew where it had been fixed but pretty hard to tell otherwise. Here are before and after pics of the body side moldings.

I ordered mine online from a Lexus dealer..and installed it myself..Color was matched to the color code....of course if a much taller truck parks next to u..it won't help..but ordinary car doors hit the moulding.this is my car...
Added chrome strip at bottom..

 

I ordered mine through a local mechanic who specializes in Toyota and Lexus. Labor and cost of the part was $100.

 

All, thank you for your advice. The ding is a spot where the paint has been removed to the grey primer. I don't see a dent. I plan to drop by the dealer to see if I can get the guards installed by them. I don't want to screw it up. I think they look good, especially as the alternative is a door with dings.

Thank you, all for the feedback. I ordered the side molding today. Dealer wants $150 to install. Seems kind of steep to me. Are they easy as a DIY job?

 

The critical part is the measuring and placement. Once the strips are contacted onto the door they don't come off. Easier with an assistant holding the rear of the strip while you place the front. Also, if you plan to do it, do it on a warm day for best adhesion. I cleaned the area first with alcohol to remove wax and any other contaminants. $89.00 and free labor...
