Did anyone cross-shop an Avalon/Impala with the ES?

I've rented a new Impala LTZ recently. Personally, I don't feel that an Impala is a proper comparison. Size wise, yes. But the everything else about the car is lacking. It's almost like the old Crown Victorias. They were solid, big, good power --- but that was pretty much it. Aside from the Impala being a FWD, they would make great police vehicles.

Hard to beat an ES300h from a fuel economy/luxury combination standpoint. But, the Impala is smoother riding and quieter, I personally don't find the power train of the 300h especially refined, and to me that alone would keep me out of a 300h and put me in a 350 looking at an ES, even with the lower economy.
Other good riding cars for you to look at, the Chrysler 300. Buick LaCrosse. I'd choose both over an Avalon.

CR gives the Impala a slightly higher Overall Rating vs. the ES. It gives the Avalon the same rating as the ES. For a variety of reason, I'd choose the ES350, but the takeaway, at least from CR, is these cars are very similar to each other. The Kia Cadenza and Hyundai Azera are both right up there too but they may be a tougher sell to someone cross shopping them with the others.

Another potential issue with secondhand hybrids is the remaining battery pack life. A 2013 MY car is over 4 years old by now. I don't know about CPO warranty coverage for the hybrid drive train either. That said, most Toyota hybrids have no problems making it to the 10-year mark on their original battery packs and it's possible to do a cheaper cell replacement instead of swapping out the entire pack.

I own a low mileage 2014 ES300h and recently had a fender bender and have been driving a 2016 Impala rental during repair. Driving comfort and road noise in the impala isn't even close.

ES 350 vs. Avalon
I owned a 2014 Avalon xle and was disappointed with the harsh ride and noise level. This may have been partly due to
the Bridgestone OEM tires. Also, with less than 20,000 miles the drivers seat bottom had to be replaced due to a
defect in the leather. Also the front seats were not comfortable. After driving it for 18 months, I traded it for an
ES 350. What a difference. There is no comparison in my opinion. I wish I had bought the ES 350 first and passed
on the Avalon.

steer clear of GM, I am a long time GM owner, I have owned 16 of them since 1986. I worked as an ASE tech for them (and Chrysler) for almost 20 years.
Until my Lexus I had never owned an import. I switched because the last 3 GM products I have owned (since their 2009 Bankruptcy) where all lemon law buy backs. Fool me once shame on you, fool me thrice same on me.. I'm done with GM.. and I advise anyone considering them to steer clear.

Looks-wise, the new Buick LaCrosse has similar flowing lines and a fastback-ish rear end like the ES. I've been seeing loads of them in the Middle Kingdom. The interior design is a bit messy, without the clean linear style in Lexus cabins, but the rear seats are comparable to the ES. Too bad they don't have a hybrid option.

Wandl, I had a 2013 ES300h and loved it. Have a 2016 now. Gas mileage is great. I think the 2013 seats are more comfortable than those in my 2016. I drove the 2013 Avalon Hybrid at the time and thought the ride was much firmer than the Lexus. The wood trim was plastic but it did have a QI charging pad which the Lexus does not have.
Did not look at the Impala.
Good luck

I'd like to see one on that little floating parcel shelf in the console. I'm an iPhone guy, but if I had an android I'd put a pad in there and plug it in.

It would fit in the center console just as well as ou NX. The NX has the charger just under the console lid, on a hinged shelf so you can access the rest of the console. It means you lose the top inch or so out of the console but it isn't a big deal. I don't use it because I too use an iPhone and don't want to add the thickness of the 3rd party charging case. Hoping a future gen iPhone will include the charger - like the Apple Watch.
