Default 2017 ES350 and panoramic roof problems

I'm in the process of finding a 2017 ES350 to lease. I have seen a lot of different configurations in my search. I do have a question though.

I am very particular about the exterior and interior colors. Several configurations I have found come with the panoramic roof. I don't want it

but I may have to accept it to get the colors and other options I want. I just read that there seems to be a growing problem with Nissan vehicles

with their panoramic roofs shattering. I know Nissan and Lexus/Toyota are worlds apart but has anyone heard of any problems with the Lexus

panoramic roofs? Like I said i don't want an ES with it if I can help it. I just don't like the interior looks of the roof. Too many holes in the

headliner.

I am not sure if they will special order a leased vehicle but it does not hurt to ask. This way you get just what you want. I did this with my 2013 ES300h and waited the 4 months it took to get here from Japan. This way I knew I would be happy with my purchase since I intend to keep this car for a very long time.

If there are issues of any kind with an ES, it is a virtual certainty that there would be posts about it on this board. I've been following this board regularly for over 3 years, and I have a vague recollection about, perhaps, one or two people reporting a shattered pano roof (after some object struck the glass), but any such issues would seem to be the rare exceptions to the norm.

There have been a few people who have reported issues with rattles with the pano roof and, with the larger glass surface, it is likely that a bit more road noise would enter the cabin, but I wouldn't be concerned about the possibility of the sunroof shattering.

Absolutely they will.

To the OP, I would not worry about a panoramic roof. While I haven't had an ES with a panoramic roof, I've had two Toyota products with them, including my current Highlander, and have never had an issue.

Lexus has been offering panoramic roofs on the ES for 11 model years (5 model years on the current generation) and there doesn't seem to be any widespread issues reported with them. It's probably something that you don't need to worry about.

My glass roof also survived a pretty intense hailstorm here in Northern California just recently... and still rattle-free. (knock on wood)
