Default New ES 350 steering wheel click

Hey all. Just wanted to ask a question. I noticed on my new ES 350 that when I go to start the car, when the telescoping steering wheel engages to come forward, there is a hard click that I hear and feel. I thought it was binding up on something. I brought it back to the dealer and spoke with the sales manager as well as the parts rep and they both tell me that this is normal for a brand new car due to the internals. The parts rep said this click will become less noticeable as the car gets broken in. I think they are both full of crap, and I know I should have talked to a service advisor or tech. I just wanted to ask on the forum if any of you owners have this issue?

Just to clarify...The click is felt/heard as soon as I hit the start engine button. As soon as the steering wheel engages to come forward

I just tried mine and it's more of a clunk (both on and off) but it does do it. Never noticed it before until you mentioned it.

I'm tempted to have the dealer turn off the auto retraction of the steering wheel anyway. Don't need it going in and out just to get out of the car.

Thank you so much UKEE for checking. At least I know that it does this then and is not just my vehicle.

Sorry to resurrect my old thread but wanted to update as well as ask a question. My Lexus is a little over a year old. I barely have 3500 miles on her though. My steering wheel still clicks. I also realized that when I came home tonight and turned the car off, the telescoping function did not engage to retract the steering wheel. I also had the red steering wheel warning light on the dash board. I turned the engine back on, waited a minute and turned it off and it then retracted like normal. This happen to any of you guys? I called Lexus and am bringing her in to get checked out next week.
