Default Bumper Chrome Pieces

I saw this the other night on an ES350, and it really caught my eyes: chrome pieces stuck on the bumper corners. What are these and what purpose do these serve? I thought they looked good on the white ES (not a fan of the door guards though).

I've seen these pieces on several cars over the last few years (actually 10 or more years) and always assumed they were an option or accessory in another market. I don't believe I've seen them on a Lexus however. I also have to add that in most cases at least one of the corner pieces was coming off the car or had been damaged in some way.

These are after- market add-ons similar to the chrome strips available for the rocker panels.

I would have just get with plane white with no chrome. The chrome throws it off.

Good thing the door bumper wasn't chrome.

Sorry, but really cheapens the look of the car IMHO.

I think they look chintzy too. Apparently the owner doesn't.
