Default ETA time with Traffic Display (Navigation)

I noticed this for the first time and wanted to share. I plotted a route this morning and noticed my ETA time was not reflecting the actual distance I had left to travel. What I did not know was there was traffic congestion and accident 5 miles ahead. When I got near the accident (route changed from yellow to red), the Lexus ETA accounted for the slow and go traffic and adjusted my ETA accordingly (very cool). I also got the stop and go traffic alert several times (highlighted in red). Once I passed the traffic congestion, my ETA adjusted automatically.

I am assuming that these real time adjustments are taking place because I still have my SirusXM subscription still active. Anyway I just wanted to share this nice tip and maybe another reason to keep your subscription.

Nav traffic is free for a year, even if you cancel XM. I've not found it very useful, though.

Agreed. Very nice. It only seems to work if you have a route plotted though, which makes sense. I find myself setting the Nav for routine trips just to have access to that feature.

The severe weather alert will catch you off guard. That seems to work no matter what.

Yeah, even on a sunny day with no actual storms in the area.

Mike is right. The Traffic Nav is good for a year, part of the Lexus subscription. In my area of the Bay Area, the traffic is always red, so it's really useless.

Yes, its actually the first time a created a route thru traffic congestion. I liked it since I was getting late for a meeting and I knew how late I will be. It was spot on after I cleared traffic with my ETA

Hi Mike728,
Do you know if there is a way to keep just the Nav Traffic after the year is up?

I have no use for XM as the car has so many ways to consume media (HD Radio, USB, Disc), but I do like the time estimates being pretty accurate due to the system taking actual traffic into consideration.

jollick,
Thanks so much for the information, extremely helpful, I think the NavTraffic should work nicely for me.

You are welcome. I did not renew my XM Radio subscription when the free trial expired, the sound quality was bad and I do not want to pay for DJs on music channels. Originally I thought the bad sound quality on XM was a radio issue but over the weekend I was in my brother's BMW and heard the same poor sound quality due to low bit rate sampling and over compression to squeeze more channels onto their limited satellite bandwidth. When the 1 year trial is near end for NavTraffic + NavWeather + SiriusXM Travel Link, I will renew them for the max 3 year subscription.

With the regular basic Sirius XM subscription, it you call to cancel the subscription when it expires, you will be offered the opportunity to do a renewal at a significantly reduced rate. When the free trial expired and I called to cancel, I was offered a non-advertised renewal rate of about $80 for a one year renewal or $25 for a 6 month renewal. I don't know whether the reduced rate renewals are available for those who call to cancel XM Traffic, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are.

I'm also in the Bay Area with a lot of red traffic - but I do find the traffic data on the map useful for making choices at either end of my commute - the final part of my northbound commute can be made on 101 or 280 - so I regularly check the map as I am approaching the split, and on the return trip - I also get a choice of 101 or 280 - this often involves looking at the length of the 101 down the entire peninsula as the 280 choice here is more costly if not really needed.

If my commute remains the same - I will probably keep the XM Data subscription.

Have you tried the Waze app? It has real time routing and display of traffic. I think it works better than Lexus's (XM) traffic info app. It also shows locations of accidents, traffic cams, and LEOs.

Yes, I've had Waze since it first released and my only issue with it on Bay Area freeways is that it often did not show jams until it was me driving through stop and go that seemed to mark the roads red. Not good for on the fly choosing between 101 and 280.

That's what I get from Lexus/XM's traffic, but maybe cuz I drive on US101 everyday. Waze traffic info is based on user feedback, which may or may not be current, ymmv.
